Discussion/Action: 

Election of Bay Deans Co-chair of Regional Consortia - Rock Pfotenhauer was nominated for and elected as Chair.

CCCAOE Report

  • December 10 is the due date for 2005 Faculty Excellence Awards
  • Schenk elected as Bay Region Vice President beginning Fall 2005
  • The CCCAOE Board is seeking a new president and secretary
  • The next CCCAOE conference is scheduled for March
  • CPR – the Board took a position opposing consolidation

 

Bay Area Community College Consortium

  • 27 mini-grants were submitted. 
  • Total funds available:  $134,776
  • Applications due November 30, notifications by December 10th
  • Student Learning Outcome Workshop dates are set.  Please e-mail Rita with questions.  Please note you can send two teams of 5 to each workshop (10 all at the same training or five at each of the sessions in March and April.

 

Chancellor’s Office:  No Report

 

Other Reports:

Research and Accountability:  Center for Student Success was asked by the Chancellor’s Office to quickly develop several options and ways of looking at statewide and local accountability.  A group of researchers are now conducting this work.  Five to six options will be submitted to experts to get recommendations and pick best models for evaluating outcomes of local districts.  Researchers involved are reported to be very knowledgeable.  BOG will provide recommendations on or before March 25, 2005.

 

Economic and Workforce Development (Avakian in absentia)

·        Statewide Advisory Meeting is scheduled for January 31 – February 1.  All are welcome to attend

·        EWD conference – scheduled for April 19-21 at the Irvine Hyatt

·        Budget Change Proposal for EWD would allow new short-term grants and was endorsed by consultation council and was received by BOG favorably.  Final approval by BOG at January meeting.

 

·        IDRC/JDIF Grants:  B.O.G. approved grants last week.  Signed grant forms will be sent from the CO in the next 2-3 weeks.

 

Announcements

·        VTEA was reauthorized for one year

·        Lin Marelik’s Fullbright partner who runs a vocational school in the Czech Republic will be here in May.  She has asked him to speak about their system, which has many interesting parallels and challenges.
