Richard Chiang, Chapter President, interviews former Chapter President
Esther Moy. Esther graduated from U.C.,
Berkeley Esther is currently a 4th year medical student at Oregon Health
and Science University. She will graduate in June 2008 and apply for
an ob/gyn residency.
Richard: Why did you participate in Beta
Theta Omicron?
Esther: I participated with BQO
because I was a founding member, and because I loved being able to support
and connect with others who were dedicated to both academics and volunteering.
I met some of my closest friends during that time, and developed many
leadership and communication skills that I use today.
Richard: Do you think the experience of
FQK helped you transferring?
Esther: I believe FQKinvolvement
did help me with my transfer, but I'm glad I didn't do it just for that.
I haven't had time to volunteer half as much as I did back then, and
I really miss it.
Richard: What did you gain through your
experience as an officer of Beta Theta Omicron Chapter?
Esther: Being an officer was amazing. I
love team work and team building, I love working with people of different
strengths and forming a strong team to get things done. I love making
a difference. I gained a confidence in myself and developed my people
skills. I got to do quite a bit of public speaking and became very comfortable
with it. I learned that you should always ask, because the worst they
can say is 'no'.
Richard: What has Beta Theta Omicron meant
to you?
Esther: BQO
was my special group. I got to know and work with people and students
I'd never have dreamed of being able to work with. I got to interact
with kids and groups in the community I would never have otherwise.
I had so much fun serving people.
