Emi Matsuura, VP of Operations, interviews former Chapter Vice-president
Tresca Truong. Tresca is finishing her
Biology degree at U.C., Davis. As a Chapter officer, Tresca won the
International Outstanding Chapter Offi-cer award.
Emi: Why did you participate in Beta Theta
Omicron?
Tresca: I wanted to participate because
I felt that having Beta Theta Omicron on my transcript would make it
look better. Plus, a former officer showed me pictures of all the community
service activities done by FQK,
which made my want to join since I love volunteering
Emi: Do you think the experience of Phi
Theta Kappa helped you in your major or in transferring?
Tresca:I do think that the experience of
FQK helped me in transferring and not only
because it was a transcript notation. A college personal statement on
an application reflects the type of person you are. Am I a leader, some-body
who helps out in the community and a well rounded individual? FQK
helped me gain all the skills I needed to be a well rounded college
student
Emi: What did you gain through tour experience
as an officer of Beta Theta Omicron Chapter? and what is most valuable?
Tresca:Read answer to question number two.
Funny thing is, that I also gained a love of traveling from being in
FQK.
Emi: Did membership in FQK
make any difference when you applied for jobs?
Tresca: It did make a difference. Usually
employers are looking for potential employees who have leadership skills
and have the ability to work very well with other people. During interviews,
when questions about leadership or social skills pop up, I bring up
my experiences with FQK.
Emi: What has Beta Theta Omicron meant
to you?
Tresca: Beta Theta Omicron
was a big part of my life at Skyline College. BQO
was like a business-club— like family to me. I made a lot of friends
from other chapters, became closer to my own friends because of all
the traveling and BQO
events. Depending on how things work out with BQO,
what you have done with the group really determines the type of person
you are. You want to keep the chapter 5 star and time management becomes
more important to you than ever. BQO
was a stepping stone for me to become a better person.
