RESEARCH QUESTION:
Is the dietary or nutritional supplement can help
diabetes?
Records from the American Diabetes Association shows that diabetics grow so fast with 1,700 American are diagnosed with diabetes every day. On the other hand, supplement industry is also a boom in the health food market. The supplement manufacturers make their consumers believe that dietary or nutritional supplements can provide nutrients, which are not absorbed on their daily diet. Consumers also believe nutritional supplements can help their disease stave off. Manufacturers proclaim that their products are supplementary to our daily diet only. But at the same time, they also show us their consumers diseases have been cured by taking their products such as diabetics. Is dietary or nutritional supplements really can help people with chronic medical conditions like diabetes? <http://search.epnet.com/direct.asp?AN=9712223029&db=f5h&">

Bernstein, Richard K. "DR. BERNSTEIN'S DIABETES SOLUTION: A Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars. " New York. Little Brown & Co. May 1997. 1st Ed. Yahoo Web. 4 May. 2002. <http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/index.shtml>.
Dr. Bernstein's is a Type I diabetic himself for 55 years. He wrote the
book to introduce his intense research and experimentation on how to achieve
normal blood sugars by his unique and simple plan. His targeted audience is
diabetics and prediabetics conditions, including obesity.
You may think that the author's opinion was bias, because his new methodology
to cure patients was almost completely outside the mainstream of
diabetology. However, his low carbohydrate solution has helped patients in
different ages and symptoms. As there are many, many readers' testimonials
to prove the improvement on their health after they followed the dietary
program on the book, the author justifies his program is workable. There
are also positive reviews from other specific parties such as doctors,
Research center in University of Virginia, health book writer. They agree
the author develops a treatment successful for himself and his patients.

Consumer Reports Magazine reported after a testing of 10 ginseng products and found that one had virtually no active ingredient, and the potency of the others varied by 1,000 percen:"The level f effectiveness and uniformity of ingredients in ;supplements may vary greatly among, and even within, products."Mark A. Atkinson, Ph.D. said:"Some supplements may interfere with medications and blood sugar levels, wreaking havoc on diabetes management if not properly monitored."
According to the researches, though the benefits of supplementation is questionable and cautious, it is important for diabetics to take supplementation like magnesium and zinc to prevent from diabetes related conditions and symptoms such as high blood pressure , retinal or kidney diseases.
