CSM BASEBALL: Did You Know?

• In the 45-year history of Bulldog Baseball, College of San Mateo has finished over .500 in 45 seasons.
  
  
• The CSM baseball program holds mandatory study hall, grade and attendance checks, and has averaged a team grade-point average of 2.9 since 1995.
  
  
• Since John Noce began his 31-season coaching career at CSM in 1962, 93 Bulldogs have played in the minor leagues and 11 have reached the Major Leagues.
  
  
• Former Bulldog pitcher John Wetteland played in the 1996 World Series with the New York Yankees, winning MVP honors for an unprecedented four saves.
  
  
• The competitive Coast Conference has four automatic bids to the postseason and regularly receives five invitations.
  
  
• CSM is the largest school in its district and is currently celebrating its 85th year as a collegiate institution.
  
  
• Since the 1995 season, the Bulldogs have averaged 32 victories per season.
  
  
• The 2008 Bulldogs have five assistant coaches who help players both on and off the field.
  
  
• 2003 graduate Scott Feldman made his Major League debut with the Texas Rangers on August 31, 2005. Feldman struck out two of the first three batters he faced. Scott finished the 2005 season with a 1.08 ERA in seven games.
  
  
• Bulldog players train year-round, including three 40-game schedules- the regular Spring season, the Fall season, and opportunities to play over the summer.
  
  
• An individual strength program is provided for each Bulldog player with one-hour mandatory weight-room workouts three times per week.
  
  
• Since 1995, 155 out of 164 sophomores have transferred to four-year colleges or signed professional baseball contracts.
  
  
• In the past 12 years 70 players have received scholarships to attend four-year schools following their career at CSM.
  
  
• CSM coaches are in constant contact with four-year and summer league coaches.
  
  
• Bulldog players are recruited nationally by top colleges and summer programs.
  
  
• Bulldog players are allowed to spend more hours on the field and play in more games than players at four-year schools.
  
  
• The student-athlete who attends College of San Mateo for two years will take virtually the same course load and meet the same academic requirements (general education) as a student at a four-year college.
  
  
• CSM is located in a Northern California baseball "hotbed". Within a 50-mile radius of the campus, there are 16 community colleges, nine four-year schools, and two major league teams. This translates into outstanding exposure and visibility for CSM players.
  
  
• The 2002 Bulldogs hit an amazing 83 homeruns in 49 games- breaking the previous mark of 50 in 2000.
  
  
• The 2003 team broke the school record of wins in a season from 38 to 40.
  
  
• 2003 graduates, Mike Mooney and Scott Feldman broke a combined 8 school records in their two years of service for the Bulldogs.
  
  
• In 2007 the Bulldogs broke a school record for sophomores receiving scholarships with 10.
