Creating an Experimental Course

COI Meeting Dates and Deadlines

An experimental course is numbered 680 or 880 if the course is not transferable. When creating an experimental course, the Committee on Instruction requires that you complete the following forms:

You will want to begin putting together your paperwork well in advance of the COI submission deadline. Course materials are reviewed & signed by a minimum of 3 readers, in addition to a Library representative, prior to submission.

PLEASE NOTE: An experimental course may only be offered for one academic year (a maximum of three times). If an experimental is to continue to be offered, permanent course materials must be submitted, and the course given a permanent course number. As experimental courses do not appear in the catalog, this ensures that courses which are truly 'permanent' are documented, and also allieviates confusion when a student is applying the course towards a degree and/or transfer.
