Creating a New Course

COI Meeting Dates and Deadlines

When creating a new course, the Committee on Instruction requires that you complete the following forms:

You will want to begin putting together your paperwork well in advance of COI submission date. Course materials are reviewed & signed by a minimum of 3 readers, in addition to a Library representative, prior to submission.

If you are recommending this course to fulfill AA/AS General Education requirements, be sure to consult the General Education Handbook to be sure that your course meets the stated area requirements. You will want to submit your course for GE approval prior to submitting for course approval, in the case that revision is necessary to satisfy the GE criteria. The COI considers courses for GE inclusion in November and January.

If you are recommending this course to fulfill a CSU breadth requirement or an IGETC breadth requirement, you will need to review the acceptance criteria for that requirement and meet with the Dean of Articulation prior to course submission.

If you are recommending this course for UC transferability, you will need to meet with the Dean of Articulation prior to course submission . UC transferability is needed before a course will be considered for IGETC .
