Course Description --
The 1600-hour undergraduate cosmetology program consists of theoretical and practical instruction divided into individual learning segments.
Students will be taught using :
- published materials
- audio-visual presentation
- lectures
- demonstrations
- practical hands-on experience
- written and practical exams
First Semester --
Students will be introduced to the basics of each of the following facets of cosmetology :
- Haircutting
- Hair texturizing
- Hair coloring
- Hairstyling
- Manicuring
- Health & Safety and Skincare
Second Semester --
Students advance and apply learned skills on live models during clinic, lab class setting. Frequent guest artists provide cutting-edge techniques and product knowledge keeping training up to date in this ever-changing industry. Students learn interpersonal communication skills necessary for success in this profession, as well as learning successful salon management techniques such as retaining, business survival skills and practical applications for contemporary designs. Participation in reality based projects such as interviewing prospective employers help students select their work environment.
Summer Session & Final Training --
Continuation of workshops and clinic. Also extensive review and preparation for the Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Program examination for licensure through the concept of time-trials and Mock State Board written and practical examination.
