Q: Why should I choose the College of San Mateo over another
schoool of Cosmetology?

A: Cosmetology students seeking a program with a long tradition of

Q: How can I apply to the Cosmetology Program at the College of
San Mateo?
A:
You can obtain the application materials and instructions on this
web site, or at the CSM Cosmetology department. The application
must be submitted to the Cosmetology Department Receptionist.

Q: How are candidates selected?
A
: Properly qualified candidates are selected on a first come first
serve basis.

Q: What courses does the Cosmetology Program offer?
A
: One year certificate program

Q: What are the prerequisites for entry into the program?
A
: In order to be eligible to take the California state licensing
exam, students must have completed the 10th grade. High
school graduation is recommended.

Q: How long is the program?
A
: 1600 clock hours, approximately 13 months with excellent
attendance.

Q: When do classes begin and end? What are the hours?
A
: Morning classes begin at 8:10 am and end at 12:00 noon.
Afternoon classes begin at 12:40 pm and end at 4:30 pm.

Q: What does Tuition include and what does it not include?
A
: Tuition covers enrollment in the Program. In addition, there
are parking, student representatives, health services and
material fees each semester. One time expenses include the
kit, books, supplies and uniform.

Q: When is Tuition fees due?
A
: Tuition and material fees are due upon registration.

Q: Does the College of San Mateo offer any financial aid programs?
A
: Yes, please contact the financial aid office at the College of San Mateo.

Q: Is there a uniform requirement for Cosmetology?
A
: Yes, students wear a black and white uniform.

Q: Where are the Cosmetology classes located at the College of San Mateo?

: All classes take place in the Cosmetology department (CSM Building 21).

Q: English is not my first language. Will this be a problem for me?
A
: There are many students for whom English is not their first language and who have completed the program successfully. Concurrent enrollment in ESL classes is strongly recommended.

Q: Is there Daycare available?
A
: Yes, childcare is available on campus. Interested persons should contact the Child Development Center at (650) 574-6279. The center is located in Building 33, and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Q: Are there any jobs available?
A
: A recent survey conducted by a large chain salon indicates there are three jobs for every Cosmetology graduate.
