Outreach & Recruitment

Outreach and recruitment is a key goal of the EOPS program. EOPS staff spread the message of our services to the CSM community, K-12 students and community agencies. Basically, wherever we're
invited–we'll be there! On campus, EOPS outreach and recruitment consists of presentations to basic skills classes in the beginning of each semester, informational tabling, flyers and banners.

We also understand the importance of being informed about college before becoming a college student.
As such, we perform outreach and recruitment to K-12 students and various community agencies through the following activities:

  • Facilitation of College Readiness Workshops
  • College and EOPS presentations at the school-site or CSM
  • CSM college tours
  • EOPS student informational panels
  • Assistance completing admissions and financial aid applications

Two annual programs for high school seniors are EOPS Preview Day and EOPS Summer College Readiness Program.

Preview Day
On Preview Day we invite 5 high school seniors from each of our feeder high schools (Aragon, Burlingame, Capuchino, Hillsdale, Mills, Peninsula, San Mateo) to spend a day as a college student. They are paired up with a current EOPS student sharing their same major. For two hours, the high school student shadows the EOPS student, going to their classes and/or getting a tour of the CSM campus. The day ends with an orientation to CSM, EOPS and the Summer College Readiness Program. A continental breakfast and lunch is provided.

Summer College Readiness Program (SCRP)
SCRP is a two-week orientation program for graduating high school seniors and incoming College of San Mateo students. Topics discussed consist of: CSM Majors and Programs, Transferring, Study Skills Workshops, Financial Aid and University Tours. SCRP participants will also meet with an EOPS counselor for course selection and development of a Student Educational Plan. Daily breakfast, transportation assistance, and a back pack with school supplies are provided.
