The latest honors for the awesome offensive line College of San Mateo fielded the past football season are academic.Not only was the Bulldogs’ OL among the most productive in community college football, it has now been recognized as the smartest.
Three players have been named to the J.C. Grid-Wire Scholar/Athlete All-America team!
Landon Laurasaitis, a 6-3, 280-pound sophomore out of San Mateo High with a 3.4 grade-point average in liberal studies, was a first team selection and will receive a certificate for his achievement from the Seattle Seahawks.
The San Mateo sophomores receiving honorable mention (effectively second team recognition):
James Tretheway (6-6, 305) from El Camino High (South San Francisco) and Andrew Havili (6-3, 278) from Burlingame High.
Tretheway, with a 3.72 G.P.A., was not eligible for the academic first team since he had already been selected to J.C. Grid-Wire’s regular All-America first team.A pre-engineering major, he has committed to play football in the Pac-10 next season atArizona.
Of the 13 offensive linemen on the first team and honorable mention, three were from CSM!No otherPeninsulaorWestBaycommunity college had any player on the entire scholar/athlete list.
--In addition, CSM sophomore defensive end David Lomu (6-2, 229) from Sequoia High has committed to San Jose State.
