Bulldogs Smash Records at May Testing
CSM Football

One of the major reasons that the CSM Bulldogs find themselves year in and year out atop the National and State rankings is their commitment to a rigorous athletic development program. At the annual spring testing in May, 38 records were broken by the 2005 Bulldogs in many different lifting and field events. The top individual record breakers were:

Kevin Linnell who broke 10 QB records and tied the All Time Athletic Index total of 83!!

James Bassett also broke 4 WR records and set the Long Shuttle record with a time of 52 seconds!!

Justin Cain broke the short shuttle record with a 3.89!

The CSM football program prides itself on taking each and every individual that enters the doors and develop them into a better athlete. You will get bigger, faster, and stronger as a member of the CSM football team. What sets the CSM athletic development program apart from others is threefold:

#1 Coaching Resources
Six coaches are assigned to work with the athletes on a daily basis to ensure attention to detail in the athlete’s form, technique and workload. This athlete to coach ratio demonstrates CSM’s commitment to helping their players develop as athletes.

#2 Year Round Comprehensive Program
There is no such thing as an “Offseason” at the College of San Mateo. Our athletic development program is a 45 week regimen which focuses on strength, speed, and agility development. The strength program emphasizes ground based, Olympic style lifts, geared at increasing the athlete’s power output. Our field training includes developing good running form, plyometrics, and change of direction exercises. Our goal is to have the workouts simulate the game of football as much as we can.

It is imperative to have our workout program match up with our football practice schedule. The main goal is to increase the athletic performance while preventing burnout, injury, and overtraining.

#3 Athletic Index
We have created an athletic index which basically compares our players to other Division I football players so they can see what athletic level they must attain. The index is a valuable resource and provides players feedback on their improvement, allows them to set goals while competing with other teammates.
