How to Register for CSM courses

To enroll in a class at College of San Mateo, follow these steps:

1. Apply for admission.
Apply on-line at https://websmart.smccd.edu. Everyone is admitted and admission is free. (If the link doesn't work for some reason, go to the main college page at http://collegeofsanmateo.edu and click on "WebSMART" on the left side of the page.)

After you apply you will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to register for classes. The e-mail will include a logon ID and password, and it should arrive in less than one hour.

When you apply for admission you will be asked to state your major and your educational goal. Your answers will determine if you need to complete the matriculation process. The matriculation process includes
1. Taking placement tests
2. Completing college orientation (on-line or on campus)
3. Meeting with a counselor or academic advisor

If you plan to earn a certificate or degree from CSM, or if you plan to transfer, you must complete the three matriculation steps. Follow the directions below labeled
“Apply with Matriculation.”

You can avoid the three matriculation steps by following the directions labeled “Apply and Avoid Matriculation." If you are interested only in taking language courses for personal enrichment, this may be your best choice.

Apply with Matriculation
If you plan to earn a certificate or degree, or if you want to transfer, enter your major and educational goals. You will be required to take placement tests, complete orientation, and see a counselor or academic advisor before registering.
Major or Program of Study: Select the best match from humanities/liberal arts programs.
Educational Goal: Select the best match. You can make changes later if you want.

Apply and Avoid Matriculation

When you apply, enter the major and educational goal listed. You will NOT be required to take placement tests, complete orientation or see a counselor or academic advisor.
Major or Program of Study: Self Enrichment
Educational Goal: Personal enrichment

2. Register for classes
Registration is done only on-line at websmart.smccd.edu. You will pay your fees when you register, using a credit card.

The class schedule is available online at collegeofsanmateo.edu.

Late Registration Process
In general, you can attend the first or second class meeting and receive an authorization code to add the class from the instructor. You can then apply for admission and use the authorization code to register for the class. However, beginning classes are often crowded, and it is best to register before the semester begins to be sure of a place in the class.

See the schedule of classes for current courses. For more information on courses or to find out what level to enroll in, call Professor Susan Petit at (650) 574-6357 or email her.
