Placing
Holds
"Placing a hold" is equivalent to "requesting" an
item. If
a book or any library item is checked out or at another library, and
you want to borrow it, you may request it by placing a hold on it. If
an item is at one library and you would prefer that it come to another
library of your choice, you can request an intra-library or inter-library
loan. "Placing holds" is a way to ensure that you are "put
in line" to receive the item you want.
There are two types of holds:
1)
Intra-library loan (for
items in the PLS library catalog)
Intra-library loan service is available to all SMCCD students, faculty
and staff who need specific resources which are available at other
libraries in the Peninsula Library System.
At most libraries, a 75 cent fee per item is charged for requesting
an item to be held. However, CSM Library
will waive this fee for any item that is picked up at CSM.
2) Inter-library
loan (for
items NOT in the PLS catalog)
Inter-library loan service is available to students, staff, faculty,
and PLS community cardholders who need specific resources which are
available at other libraries (outside of the Peninsula Library System).
There are no ILL service charges for
SMCCCD students, faculty and staff (presentation of a current college
I.D. may be required). Other PLS cardholders will
be charged the ILL fee as established at their home PLS library.
Use the library
catalog to see if your item is available within the PLS libraries
to determine which type of loan request applies to you.
