Lyle Gomes


yle Gomes has been immersed within.the art of photography for over 20 years. His education in photography began at CSM in 1974 and he received his M.A. in Photography (1980) from San Francisco State University. He began his teaching career in 1980 and has served as Coordinator of the Photography Department at College of San Mateo since 1984.


His photographs have been exhibited nationally and are in numerous permanent collections which include the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.

In 1994 his work received national exposure when his project "The Presidio - A City Woodland" was exhibited at the Ansel Adams Center for Photography, San Francisco.

In 1995 his work was included in an exhibit at
the M.H. de Young Museum entitled- "Facing Eden: 100 Years of Landscape Art in the Bay Area".

He has received grants from the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, the Polaroid Corporation, and the San Mateo County Arts Council. He was named the year's "Outstanding Individual Artist" by the San Mateo County Art Council in 1994.

His photographs have been included in national publications which include:
American Photographer,
Camera & Darkroom,
Artweek,
See (Friends of Photography Quarterly),
and Presidio Gateways (Chronicle Books).
