ASCSM Committees
Most of the work of the ASCSM is carried out by several standing and temporary, or ad hoc, committees. The major standing and ad hoc committees are listed below.
ASCSM Committee meetings are open to all members of the public. Anyone interested in joining a committee is welcome to attend.
Finance & Administration
The Finance & Administration committee is responsible for matters of budget, personnel, equipment purchase and maintenance, facilities use, election guidelines, constitutional amendments and bylaw amendments sponsored by the Senate, and statewide legislative issues.
Fundraising & Enterprise
The Funding & Enterprise committee is responsible for exploring new ways to bring revenue into the AS.
Technology Committee
The Technology Committee is charged with the purchase, maintenance and policies regarding ASCSM technology. The committee also works with the College Technology Planning Committee to set the guidelines for technology use and implementation at CSM.
Academic Enhancement
The Academic Enhancement committee is responsible for reviewing academic-related issues and making recommendations to the Senate reagarding such issues, and for developing ways to enhance the academic experience of students on the campus.
Volunteer & Community Service
The Volunteer Community Service committee is responsible for encouraging and promoting volunteer service and service learning. A major project of this committee is to coordinate the annual Volunteer Fair which matches students with local community agencies and non-profit associations. Members of this committee also serve on the CSM Connects advisory committee which also promotes volunteer and service learning programs for the College through the Cooperative Education Program and the college curriculum.
Ambassadors & Mentors Outreach Program (AMOP)
The Ambassadors & Mentors Outreach Program committee works with the College’s High School Outreach Counselor to promote CSM at off-campus events, such as college and career fairs. During the Spring semester, the committee helps coordinate the Priority Enrollment Program (PEP) tours for incoming high school seniors.
Programs & Services
The Programs & Services committee is responsible for providing social, cultural, recreational and educational programs and services for students. These can include, but are not limited to, speeches by candidates for elective office, art shows, concerts, film festivals, the annual Spring Fling event, Cinco de Mayo, African-American History Month observances, coordinating the free swim and summer swim programs, operating the concession stand at sporting events, and the merchant discount program.
Public Relations
The Public Relations committee is responsible for Senate newsletters, press releases to the media, advertising for student participation in student government, and marketing of the student body card.
Bulldog Blues
The Bulldog Blues/Monday Morning Blues is the Senate newsletter, designed to inform the campus community of upcoming events and activities. The newsletter also serves as an open forum for discussion and debate of current issues and topics.
Inter Club Council (ICC)
The Inter Club Council (ICC) is comprised of representatives from each student club on campus. Its purpose is to provide an information exchange between clubs, coordinate events sponsored by more than one club, and has a very important role in advising the Student Senate regarding support for club activities.
Legislative & Governmental Affairs
The Legislative Affairs & Governmental Relations committee is responsible for coordinating the representation of student viewpoint to local, state, and national legislators, government officials, and policy makers regarding educational and other issues affecting students. Responsibilities include surveying students, formulating position papers, recommending resolutions and other position statements for passage by the Student Senate, and developing advocacy campaigns to affect change. Members of this committee serve as representatives to the Statewide Student Senate, the California Student Association of Community Colleges (CalSACC), and the American Student Association of Community Colleges (ASACC).
Café International Advisory Board
The Café International coffee house was created in 1989 by the Associated Students to serve student needs by creating a comfortable study and conversation are for the campus. The Café International Advisory Board is responsible for the on-going review and major operating policy recommendations for the program.
Alumni Association
The CSM Alumni Association enables the College to promote a life-long relationship between CSM and her graduates, and it enables us to promote a continuing fellowship among alumni themselves. More information about the Alumni Association is available here.
Vending Commission Distribution Committee (VCDC)
Through a mutual agreement with the District, 100 percent of vending commissions come to the ASCSM. This committee discusses how to best allocate those funds.
