Agenda

  • Technology Budget
  • Computer Surplus
  • Loan-to-Own
Discussion items:
  • Technology Budget
  • Computer Surplus
  • Loan-to-Own

    Action Items
1. Technology Budget (TTIP/TECH II Budget Summary);

Frank Vaskelis led a discussion on technology funding from the State. He gave a complete history of the TTIP funding from 1996/97 - projected 2002/2003.

Of particular note was that State technology funding for the District has dropped from $843,168 in 2001/2002 to a projected $248,200 for 2002/2003.

It also was noted that the funding for the CTL, that had previously come from State TTIP Human Resource funding, is projected to be decreased to $0 for the 2002/2003 year. Frank assured the DITC committee that he would be able to secure enough funding to continue the CTL for the 2002/2003 year.

2. Loan-to-Own:

The loan-to-own program was discussed at length. Jai Kumar confirmed the Bookstore/Districts commitment to fund this program. The issues discussed were the Dell computer product line (all products), and support issues (no district support).

We can expect a good price, good deal, and details to follow.

3. Computer Surplus:

Rick Bennett led a discussion of recent issues that have arisen with surplus computer equipment in the District.

In the past, when new computers were installed in labs and offices there was not existing computers or the existing computers were redeployed to other areas. However, it seems that now when new computers arrive the existing computers are being surplused rather than recycled. Disposing of the surplused equipment has become the responsibility of Rick Bennett's office. This is a new responsibility for his office. Surplusing of, computer monitors is a problem because of changes in EPA rules now require special handling of monitors for which there is a cost $15/each.

After discussion of a variety of possible solutions, DITC directed Frank Vaskelis to take forward to Chancellor's council a recommendation that a $25 surcharge be added to the purchase of new monitors. This money is to be exclusively for the disposal of computer monitors.
