The current out-dated Library at Cañada College is tucked into the outer edge of the campus on the lowest level of Building 5 and Building 6. Because of its location, it is difficult to access, and invisible to the campus community. Activity is high in these areas, but not easily accessible. There are a number of ADA Accessibility issues on the exterior of the library as well as in the interior area.
The new Library and Learning Resource Center (Building 9) will fulfill several key roles in terms of its relationship to other campus facilities. In addition to providing modern Library and Learning Center facilities, it will become a new campus entrance that will tie Buildings 16, 17 and 18 into the main path of travel. It will serve as an accessible link between the upper parking area and the campus quad, three stories below. The building’s elevator will make the steep transition far easier than the existing stairs and ramps it will replace. |
