BUILDING 18 – MODERNIZATION & SEISMIC RETROFIT

Description: Building 18, North Hall, is an existing 3 story 30,000 sf cast-in-place concrete building originally constructed in the early 1960’s.  The building will undergo a complete seismic retrofit, including foundation underpinning, new concrete foundations, shear walls and strengthened connections.  The building will be modernized and brought up to current accessibility, building, mechanical, electrical, fire and plumbing code compliance, as well as new furniture, fixtures and equipment.  Specifically, a new elevator, fire sprinkler system and fire alarm system is part of the scope of work, along with restroom renovations, new doors and hardware, upgraded heating/ventilating/air conditioning systems, a new roof, a data communications upgrade, new paint, floor coverings, ceilings and window coverings. 

Benefits: Building 18’s modernization and seismic retrofit will create a facility conducive to modern and future pedagogical methodology, directly supporting the Language Arts Department’s general lecture and laboratory spaces, general lecture classrooms, and the Academic Senate Lounge.
