Construction Planning Department
CPD Mission Statement
CPD’s mission is to make each campus a special place.
Through better planning the CPD will help improve the
quality of our educational experience by delivering
world-class facilities that will enable our students to
obtain the richest educational experience possible.
Following passage of Measure A in November 2005,
Chancellor Galatolo and staff began to explore
alternative methods of improving program management in
CIP 2, focusing primarily on using an internal
Construction Planning team, rather than outsourcing
construction related planning services.
The objective for starting a Construction Planning team
within the District is primarily to improve the quality
of the planning process and to foster better, quicker
decision making. Further objectives allow the District
to decrease the amount of outsourcing in CIP 2, to add
value and service to the District and the Colleges, to
meet the Board Goals of fiscal year 2006-2007, and to
retain cost savings to CIP 2. By having District
employees provide planning services there will be a
higher level of loyalty and commitment. After five years
of experience, the District realized that employees, who
are committed to the goals of this institution, are
better equipped to deliver construction planning. The
CPD will help decrease turnover of project managers and
staff during the six year period of CIP2 and will bring
passionate individuals devoted to improving the
facilities of our colleges for the betterment of all
constituencies, including students, staff, faculty, and
the community.
The CPD will better provide an exchange of ideas and
information. As employees of the District the CPD will
be able to communicate more effectively than an outside
planning organization with the campus constituency and
advocate for faculty, students and staff. The department
will be better equipped to bridge communication to
contractors, architects, planners, engineers and other
specialty consultants, working toward the goal of
planning that serves the needs of our colleges. Further,
the CPD intends to bring a quicker, better, faster
program that provides us with the best value for our
money.
