Learning Objectives:

The goals for this lesson include:

• To understand why evaluating information is necessary.

• To learn how to conduct a preliminary evaluation of traditionally published sources.

• To understand that periodicals may have different ideological, political and philosophical perspectives.

• To know how to find information about an author's background and qualifications.

• To know how to evaluate information found on the Internet.

Reading Assignments:

• Read Chapter Eight:  “Preparing a Flawless Biography,” pp. 153-162.

Review the web site, Evaluating Web Pages: Techniques to Apply and Questions to Ask, published by the U.C. Berkeley Library.

Review the document, Web Page Evaluation Checklist, published by the U.C. Berkeley Library.
