DSKL 817 Kurzweil 3000

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency in using the text-to-speech assistive technology to access and read an electronic textbook or document.
  • Students will be able to apply study strategies in Kurzweil 3000 to an electronic textbook or document.

Topics to be covered:

  • Kurzweil Toolbars and Scanning
  • Highlighting and Extracting
  • Bookmarks
  • Inserting Notes (Text Notes, Sticky Notes, Footnotes, Bubble Notes)
  • Customizing Toolbars
  • Reading the Internet with Kurzweil (Mozilla's Firefox)

Requirements:

  • Class attendance (40 points)
  • Exercises (35 points)
  • Review (10 points)
  • Final (15 points)

This is a 4-week class. If you are unable to complete your 4-week session, you may attend the next session.

Class materials will be provided.

Class Procedures:

  1. Instruction will be given during your scheduled class time.  It is very important that you attend all classes.  Please schedule your work hours and other appointments accordingly.
  2. If you are unable to attend class, please phone 574-6432 at any time and leave a message.
  3. In order to become, proficient in using the computer, you should spend time outside of your class time practicing what you’ve learned in class.  Computers are available during Open Lab hours.  Computers with Kurzweil are also available in the Library and Reading Center during regular open hours, including some evenings. For details, see Carolyn or Sue.

Open Lab Hours

The ATC lab is open for independent work in the afternoons, Monday through Thursday until 3:00.  There are classes in the mornings so check for computer availability.

The lab is open Friday mornings from 8:00 to 12:00.
