Textbook Rental Program
Cañada College, College of San Mateo and Skyline College

With this program textbooks are rented to students with financial need who would not otherwise be able to obtain textbooks for their classes. In most cases, the rental cost is about one-fourth of the new selling price of the textbook. For example, a book that costs $100 can be rented for about $25 a semester, and is returned at the end of the semester. President's Innovation Fund
Cañada College, College of San Mateo and Skyline College

The fund provides startup or seed funding for innovative faculty and staff initiatives that promise to advance CSM's, Cañada's and Skyline's ability to meet community needs. Examples include developing or revising academic programs, meeting local workforce needs, and promoting cultural enrichment within the college and the community.

Annual/Caņada Cares Fund
This fund is for scholarships for incoming and continuing Caņada Colege students with financial need. The direct cost for a full-time student to attend Caņada, including textbooks, is at least $1,600 per year, depending on the major. Indirect costs (including transportation and personal expenses) for a student living at home with parents are $6,700, and for self-supporting students is $15,000. Most scholarships range from $500 to $1,000.

Friends of Skyline
The purpose of the "Friends of Skyline" Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships for local, low-income students with academic merit to attend Skyline College for one year. The direct cost for a full-time student to attend Skyline, including textbooks, is at least $1,600 per year, depending on the major. Indirect costs (including transportation and personal expenses) for a student living at home with parents are $6,700, and for self-supporting students is $15,000. Reach for the Stars
Currently CSM has the only planetarium in San Mateo County and one of few in the San Francisco Bay Area that is used for community star shows and astronomy days.

Supported by a bond measure, a new science building was completed in Spring 2006. It houses a state-of-the-art planetarium and roof-top observatory. A fundraising effort continues to help raise $750,000 for the new planetarium’s star projector and related technologies.
