We will be using the Java Platform for programming assignments. It is available in the CIS Lab. You may also download it from the Sun web site and install it on your own computer. Select one of the Windows Platform - J2SE(TM) Development Kit 5.0 Update 8 options: online or offline. It is up to you to determine which is best for you based on your Internet access.

You must use an editor such as JCreator or Notepad to enter your programs. JCreator is recommended.

A free version of JCreator can be downloaded at http://www.jcreator.com/download.htm. I suggest that you select version 3.5. Note that you can also download the Java SDK at this site. You must have the Java Platform installed on you computer prior to installing JCreator.

Media:

If you are planning to submit your assignments on floppy disks, you will need at least three floppy disks.

If you are planning to work in the CIS lab, you must have some type of media to save your work. Media that can be used in the lab include thumb drives (flash drives, etc), zip disks, and floppy disks. Be sure you put your name and phone number on all your media. CDROMs are not recommended for saving work.
