Picking a topic and discussion of other student topics.  30pt

Remember this is a critical part of your assignment.  Your topic will make your task easy (when lots of information is available) or hard (if no information is available or if your topic is too broad)

Deadline September 30th for posting your topic and October 2nd for making your comments on other topics.

Pick a topic that you will do a report on.  (10pt) The topics will have the following limitations.  It must be a disease, or genetic disorder that has a measurable effect on humans and has morphological characteristics.  If you are not into diseases or genetics then choose a topic that has to do with the interaction of humans and water.

Students are not allowed to duplicate topics, so choose your topic as early as possible.

Write out a paragraph explaining what your topic is.  It should be formatted like this…….. The topic I propose to work on is Polydactaly.  I chose this topic because (give 3 reasons) 1,2,3.    (end with a conclusion statement)  (Examples are provided)

Once you have picked out your topic then go to the following discussion board http://www.smccd.net/forums/kapp/

Read the topic that have been chosen for this class, by clickon on the Disease project pick list.

If someone has already chosen your topic you will have to find a new topic.

If your topic is new to this discussion board then you can click on the Post a message icon and add your topic.

You will earn 10 points for selecting and writing out why you chose your topic.

To earn an additional 20 points for this project you must critique and assist other students.

Your topics should be selected by September 30th, so that other students can make comments and help give you links.

Part 2 of the Disease Paper

Topic Discussion  (20pt)

You must discuss 2 topics picked by other students.

Each Discussion is worth 10 points. For a total of 20 points.

Pick 2 completed topics and evaluate them.

You must write out a paragraph that contains at least one positive statement about the topic and one negative statement or mistake that is inherent in the topic.  A negative can mean-a misconception about the disease or a problem with choosing a particular disease in regards to how difficult the assignment will be because of the subject matter chosen?

Give the students a page….

Also give the student the URL to a web site or a picture of the topic.  (Remember this has to be specific, don't say look at www.google.com and enter your disease, the url must be obviously on the topic that you are critiquing)

Comments and evaluations are due by October 2nd.

What's next.   Find 2 articles on your disease, due dates will be posted?
