Instructions for  your lab book.

1) Take a picture or draw an example of a skull with the structures labled.

2) Discuss what convergence is and adaptive readiation.  Use some of the skulls that you will view in lab to support your definitions.

3) Write out a discussion of the questions given on page 185.

4) Enter the data for all of the materials in the lab.  Use table 1 of the dental formulae to identify the orders of your specimens.

5) Perform a comparison between herbivores and carnivores.  Using your specimens, the text and any outside resources (these must be adequately labled).  Your discussion will be unique to you (do not copy other peoples work, similar reports will receive no grade).  Your report must be at least one page.

Your lab books should contain.

1)       a detailed explanation of how to use the electrophoresis apparatus used in our classroom.  (under procedure)

2)       A detailed description of the immunodiffusion test.

3)       Your results, with the lanes properly labled.  Use the poloroid or the computer to make your photos.

4)       Your conculsion should describe what the value of electrophoresis is.

5)       Your conclusion should cronicle why serology and molecular techniques are probably better than comparative anatomy, embryology and other morphological techniques used to determine relatedness among species.
