Eady,
Above is the tentative lab schedule. Pat will check it out this next week or so and than we will be good to go. I would like to concentrate on laboratory techniques and real life experiences this fall. So with this in mind we will be doing the following. The points that the students will receive will be on their Lab Books, how well they as a class perform an experiment (weather they leave the lab neat ect). 3 pop inspections and 2 scheduled proficiency examinations.
I would like the rotate the students in groups of 3. the groups will alternate every week. We can simplify things by grading one of the laboratory books in the groups of 3 and giving the others the grade. So every weekend we will be taking home a third of the class to look at. I would also like to give out surveys for students to grade one another in their group (ie how much they do ect, consistent slackers will be identified whey they are consistently poor.
The grading rubric.
The laboratory is worth 35% of the overall grade
3 pop inspections (up to your discression to keep the students on their toes) 1% each.
2 laboratory practices at 6.5% each
14 Lab book inspections (1 per group(they all get the same value) per week) 1% each
1 Lab book final inspection 3% (results from surveys factored into this value)
Company bonus 3% (depends on the group interaction, how well prepared ECT
Rubric for grading the lab books.
|
Lab book not legible |
1st time returned, 10% taken off each day until fixed. 2nd time max score of 35% |
|
|
Lab book not in correct format |
Max score of 70% |
|
|
Laboratory results not acceptable (students did the work but the experiment failed for some reason) |
Max score of 80% |
Needs to have very good explanation as to what went wrong |
