How To Use The Lessons
- First, read through the lesson. It has valuable hints on what to look for in the text.
- Read the text. As you're reading highlight the areas that the final clues seem to apply to.
- Before the midterm, see if you can answer the questions suggested for the midterm.
- Check the "commentary" (its like lecture) for additions to the material.
- Watch carefully in later lessons for help on the answers to the midterm or final.
- Links are useful information particulary the text site. Some of them can also be useful particularly on the second midterm.
Good Advice
Don't fall behind. This can be deadly in an online class because you don't have a regular class meetings to remind you of assignments. No matter what, set a schedule for reading the text and keep it. The text is your friend in this course, but it won't answer everything, especially on the midterm. The final comes completely from the text (but I'll help along the way). Check back on old lessons, they will change throughout the course with updates and suggestions. I'll usually tell you when I have made a change in any materials in an announcement. Test material won't change much. And remember, don't get frustrated when things like the "chat" or conference (message board) don't work as expected. There will probably be some mistakes and glitches along the way such as the server being down from time to time. The main thing: read the book, read the lessons, take the tests.
On the second midterm, you will find the example test questions in the text site extremely helpful. Study them. The essay questions are listed in the lessons as "second midterm essay questions". You will NOT have to do both of them, only one of them. Choose carefully.
