Advertising and Marketing:

 

 

Choose one of the following questions and write a 5-6 page essay as a response.  Please use ample support from the readings (Mirror on American and Fast Food Nation) and additional resources where necessary.

 

 

 

  1. As a consumer advocate, one who acts to protect consumers' rights, write an essay to other consumers alerting them to the different kinds of advertising manipulation mentioned in chapter 6, Mirror on America.  Illustrate your argument with detailed descriptions of at least 3 ads from some specific advertising campaigns.

 

 

  1. Research some of the anti-advertising/anti marketing groups—Obey Giant, Adbusters, Stay Free, Media Watch—to discover what their counter-campaigns or methods of "resistance" are.  Write an essay discussing whether or not their methods are effective.  Be sure to explain why or why not.

 

Things to consider:

·        your essay must directly respond to the assignment

·        you must use readings from Mirror on America and Fast Food Nation to support your points/discussion

·        Use specific examples of ads/counter ad campaigns in your essay
