  • Search for comprehensive information on a subject of your choice on 3 directories, and compare the results.
    • Compare the indexes of the directories, do they inform you that the subject you are searching is compiled by the directories?
    • Do you get any information from all the directories?
    • If yes, are the information all related to the subject you are looking for?
    • Which directory gives you the most comprehensive results?
  • Narrow down your search subject, for example, from "religion" to "Buddhist ritual in Japan", and use 3 search engines to look for information. Compare your search results:
    • do all the search engines find the same information?
    • are the information relevant to you subject?
  • Use Boolean operations and the advance search functions available in each search engines, search for the same topic:
    • what is the quality of the hits compare with the above results?
    • which search engine gives you the best result?
  • Evaluate the results using the five traditional print evaluation criteria:
    • accuracy
    • authority
    • objectivity
    • currency
    • coverage
  • What is your conclusion? Are you satisfied with the information you found or do you need to continue your research in sources other than the Web?
