Telnet

  • Telnet -- A protocol for connecting and using a remote computer system's facilities, software, or data. A telnet connection allows your computer to act as a terminal for the remote computer system. For example, if you telnet to the Library of Congress to use it's online catalog, you can use the commands of the Library of Congress online catalog in Washington D.C. as though your computer is one of the terminals there. Some telnet sessions require a login name and a password.
