Welcome to Fall 2008 Human Biology!

There is an orientation meeting on Thursday Aug. 21, 2008 at College of San Mateo, Bldg. 36, Room 215 at 6:10pm to 7:10 pm.

Student Learning Outcomes Fall 2008

  1. Describe the body structure and function.
  2. Relate normal healthy functioning of the body to disease processes.
  3. Develop an appreciation and understanding of science based knowledge.
  4. Understand the place of humans in the spectrum of life on earth.

Textbooks and Other Resources

Required: Human Biology: Concepts and Current Issues, 4th Ed., Michael Johnson, Benjamin Cummings Publishers, 2008

This will serves as your main content source. Each week you will do guided reading assignments. The class will also include online activities, discussions, quizzes, and assignments to turn in.

Optional: Human Biology Study Guide by Stewart

Examinations and Grades

  
8 Quizzes @ 40 pts = 320pts A 90% and above
Assignments = about 80pts B 80-89%
     C 70-79%
   D 60-69%
   F Less Than 60%

Quizzes will be taken online during a specific time window and with a time limit. Quizzes will be multiple choice, true and false, matching and short answer questions. Make-up quizzes are at the discretion of the instructor.

Quizzes are not cumulative.
