About this class:

BAR Approved: This class is a BAR approved alternative way to meet the Advanced Engine Performance requirement for a smog license. Please note: ASE does not acknowledge the BAR Alternative L1 training. Also, you don’t have to have A8 as a requirement to take this class. When you attend all the required class hours, do the lab and homework assignments and pass the final exam at 70% or better, you have passed the L1 Alternative class

Costs: Besides the normal fee to register for a class with the college, there is an additional cost of $120.00 for this class and is due the first day of class. This covers the cost of the approved textbook (you can pick it up in class), the third party testing service, and the cost for lab. Please make checks out to “Skyline Auto Tech Club.”

Test Results: We cannot guarantee that everyone in class will pass the final exam just because they have taken the class. We will do everything we can to prepare you for the exam. You will be given a pretest to help identify your level of knowledge in engine performance. Any student who gets less than 70% on the pretest may have a harder time passing the final exam. You will be given the final exam on the last day of class. You should receive your test results on your final exam within about 10 days of taking the exam.

If you fail the final exam the first time you take the class, you might be allowed to take it a second time after consulting with the instructor, but you must pay an additional $35.00 testing fee. You may only take it on a date arranged with the instructor. (We have to pay testing fees to the vendor who supplies the test.)
