Valve Clearance Adjustment Worksheet  

1.      Look up and record the valve adjustment specifications:
     Intake ____ Exhaust ____ Condition: Hot ___ Cold ___

2.    Remove the valve cover and check when done: ____

3.     Rotate the engine to #1 cylinder TDC, on the compression stroke. Do Not use the camshaft or camshaft bolts to turn the engine. Turn over the engine with a socket on the crankshaft bolt, use a remoter starter or jumper wire on the cranking motor (with the engine off), or follow repair manual directions… Check when done: ____

4. Check the manual for which valves can be inspected or adjusted in this position. (On many vehicles, half the valves can be adjusted in this position.  Then rotate the engine one full turn, and inspect or adjust the other half of the valves. ) Note which can be inspected or adjusted:   

#1 Intake ___ #1 Exhaust ___ #2 Intake ___ #2 Exhaust ___
#3 Intake ___ #3 Exhaust ___ #4 Intake ___ #4 Exhaust ___

5.     Now check the valve clearance for all the valves and record the clearance gap here:

6.    Now adjust the valve clearance to specs and record your final clearance gap here:      (Turn engine over a couple times to check and reinstall the valve cover.)  Check when done:
