Body Mass Index
an indicator of obesity

Body Mass Index (BMI) ia a mathematical calculation that correlates height to weight which indicates the health risks of obesity. BMI calculation does NOT measure body fat percentage.

FORMULA:
          BMI = weight (kilograms)
                     height (meters)2

NOTE:
   1. convert weight pounds into kilograms
             divide pounds by 2.2 kg/lb
   2. convert height inches into meters squared
             multiply inches times 2.54cm/inch = cemtimeters
             divide centimeters by 100cm/m = meters
             multiply meters times meters to convert into meters squared.

        EVALUATION:
                <18.5         = underweight
                20 - 24.9    = desireable, low health risks
                25 - 29.9    = mild obesity, significant increases in health risks
                                                begin at 27.3 for females and 27.8 for males
                30 - 39.9    = obesity, high health risks
                >40            = massive obesity
