Jump Start Program

What is Jumpstart?

Since the summer of 1998 Skyline College has conducted a Jump Start summer program.  The program is designed to assist students with basic English, mathematics, study skills, critical thinking, career exploration, and computer technology.  The program meets during the six-week Skyline Summer Session.  The students are from local San Mateo high schools, including El Camino, Capuchino, Oceana, South San Francisco, Terra Nova, and Westmoor.

The goals are as follows:

1. To provide a supportive and personal learning environment
2. To motivate students to be excited about learning
3. To explore educational and career opportunities
4. To learn how to be a successful student
5. To improve English and mathematical skills
6. To elevate students' self-esteem as a result of self-awareness and learning
7. To expose students to different techniques of teaching in and out of the classroom

We believe that through the Jump Start Program and other collaborative efforts with our feeder schools, we can encourage, motivate and rekindle students’ enthusiasm for learning.   For more informaiton contact Félix Pérez, at 650.738.4144.
