LEARNING SKILLS 801 - STUDY SKILLS ASSISTANCE - (.5 - 3 CREDIT)
 
ATTENDANCE
IN CLASS: Attendance roll is passed around at each class meeting. Not only does lack of attendance affect your work, but it can also lead to automatic withdrawal from this class.
 
 

IN LAB: Make sure you log-on the computer and update your folder/bluebook journal when you put your lab time with your tutor or work on your Study Skills Material. Lab hours are done in the Learning Center, Rm 5100, By Arrangement

All students must have a 3 ring binder with dividers (required).
What is Learning Skills 801 Learning Skills 801 is a lecture/lab course designed to assist students in developing study skills necessary for successful college work. Under the supervision of the instructor and working with tutors and/or study groups, student will learn a variety of study techniques directed towards specific fields of study. These techniques include notetaking, taking exams, memory techniques, study reading, using computers for efficient studying, etc.
 
 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING

A. Units are awarded from .5 to 3 units. MAXIMUM LAB HOURS PER DAY IS 3 HOURS

B. 0.5 units of credit = 24 lab hours and a lab Journal.

C. 1.0 units of credit = 48 lab hours and a lab Journal.

D. 2.0 units of credit = 96 lab hours, a lab Journal and/or attendance of class.

E. 3.0 units of credit = 96 lab hours, a lab Journal and attendance of class.

The instructor will initial an hour of attendace only if the student is actively working and making progress towards his/her study skills goal.

F. 1.0 unit may be received by participation in the classes/workshops and completion of required assignments.

G. .5 - 2.0 unit may be received by completion of the study skills project and completion of required assignments.

H. All students must have two instructor conferences an entry conference and exit conference, completion of a Diagnostic Study Skills Assessment Plan and required assignments. MAXIMUM CREDIT THAT CAN BE EARNED IN ONE SEMESTER IS 3 UNITS.

REQUIRED ASSIGNMENTS
1.  3 Ring Binder with notes and class material.
2.  Complete computer study skills lab assignments.
3.  Complete assignments with class and/orlabs as neccessary.
4.  Complete quizzes, journal entries or lab journal.
5.  Complete final exam.
6.  (Extra Credit) Complete workshop evaluation when you participate in a Success workshop.
