THE JAPANESE AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

(Afternoons)

Japanese Automotive Technology Program: This program, which specializes in technology of the Japanese automobile, consists of eight individual training modules. Each training module is self-contained, which means that the training from one module is not required to enter another module. Seven separate entry points allow students to enter the program at several different times during the year rather than the traditional fall and spring start dates.

Program Advantages: The major advantage of this program is expanded, in-depth training in the areas of electrical, electronics, computer control, and emission control on Japanese technology vehicles. The program provides extensive hands-on training in testing and diagnosis of real problems on late model vehicles. This training prepares students for A.S.E. certification and State license examinations. Students develop a professionalism towards the automotive industry. Students wear dealership-type uniforms, use time cards, use repair orders, and use inspection forms.

Toyota Technical Education Network: Skyline College’s Japanese Automotive Technology program umbrellas another Automotive training program, which is sponsored by a major automotive manufacturer. The Toyota Technical Education Network (T-TEN) is among the finest training programs in the nation.

Technical Training: The Toyota T-TEN training program follows the same automotive curriculum as the Japanese Automotive Technology program. The curriculum has been designed in cooperation with automotive manufacturers. Training for this program takes four semesters over a two year period. Students attend classes four days a week, five hours per day, Monday through Thursday, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sixty-one automotive semester units in total, over 1420 hours of training, provide students with both in-depth training in Japanese automotive technology and extensive hands-on experiences. Students will have an opportunity for selection into the T-TEN program after one semester in the Automotive Technology program.

Internships: Selected students are provided internships at participating Toyota and Lexus Dealers as part of their training and work alongside master technicians to better understand automotive repair. These Toyota T-TEN students spend their first summer working at a sponsoring dealership. Upon successful completion of this summer work internship, a second summer work internship is offered. Some students may continue their internship throughout their second year.

Program Benefits: Toyota’s T-TEN program is committed to high-tech automotive training. Students work on the latest Toyota technology using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. Tool set scholarships are awarded to graduate T-TEN students. Students are provide internships which enhance student learning.
