Treasurer’s Report

Theresa Tentes reported that after paying a bill of $50 for the raffle baskets there is approximately $4140 in our account ($1402 of this money has been designated for Staff/Faculty Scholarship Fund). It is time to decide how much and how many scholarships we as Classified Council want to fund this year. Last year we awarded two $250 scholarships. A sub-committee to discuss Classified Scholarships has been formed with Theresa Tentes, Donna Elliott, Felix Perez and Julene Rhoan. They will meet and discuss the criteria for Classified Scholarships to be awarded this year and will bring their recommendations back to the next Classified Council meeting. Theresa also reported that the Fundraising Committee met last week but did not have a quorum. They are still considering another Chevy’s Night fundraising and/or Armadilo Willy’s in San Mateo. There was a question about having another bake sale in the spring around Easter time.

It was brought up that there will be a District-wide Retreat the first part of April. Linda Herda volunteered to contact Vickie Nunes to get more information.

District Shared Governance This committee met on Monday at the District Office. John Baker from Swinerton was there to discuss the Facilities Project Management Report that was distributed. Phyllis Porcar shared copies of this report with us.

Health & Safety  No committee report at this time. Phyllis Porcar handed out copies of the report form to be used for Health & Safety concerns.

Skyline EEOAC-Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Committee (formerly FASDAC)-Museum of Tolerance   The status of this program is in limbo right now due to the uncertainty of the budget. It appears that it will be scaled back but we don’t know how severely. The “training of the trainers” that was supposed to happen this week appears not to be taking place. The April group is still scheduled to go at this point.

Student Access and Success  Anyta Archer reported that this is a very active committee and they have been working on a draft of PFE Goals.

Strategic Alternatives for Institutional Funding  SAIF   President White took the recommendations of this committee to the Board of Trustees. There is another meeting of this committee planned for March.

Budget   Since there was the Open Forum on Tuesday of this week concerning budget issues, President White did not attend the Classified Council meeting. There was discussion on the state of the budget and what the cuts will mean to Classified Staff. It was strongly suggested that we become pro-active on the budget issue and send letters to our legislators. We need to get the word out that the proposed cuts are unacceptable to all community colleges.

Clean Air Campaign  Phyllis Porcar read part of the College Council meeting minutes concerning the Skyline College smoking policy. Ideas and issues were discussed as to what exactly can be done. Barbara Wylie/Health Center, Jim Herndon/Security, and Paula Bray/Facilities have asked to come speak to the Classified Council at our next meeting to talk about the Clean Air Policy.

Spaghetti Dinner  Pablo Gonzalez is the chair of the committee for this fundraiser. It will be held on Friday, March 21 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Municipal Services Building in South San Francisco. The meal will include spaghetti, salad, bread, beverage, and cookies. The cost will be $15/adults and $8/children 10 years and under. Most of the food is to be donated and community leaders and other volunteers from the community will be working in the kitchen. We will need to purchase beverages, decorations, paper goods, and possibly coffee. There needs to be clarification on the cost of the building use. If you would like to help on any of the following committees, please contact Pablo Gonzalez: Set-up, Decorations, Servers, Ticket Sellers, Solicitors (to contact local businesses for donations)

Next meeting will be Thursday, March 6, 2:00 pm in room 5131.

Respectfully submitted by Linda Herda, Secretary
