College Council
In March 2004, there will be
an accreditation visit to Skyline
College.
Facilities update: The
asbestos abatement in Building 1, 2nd and 3rd floors, adversely affected the
floor tiles and they were removed. New acoustical panels have been glued into
place in the Student Services Center.
Athletic field improvements are underway. An Open Forum is scheduled for Thursday,
Feb. 26, 1:30-3:30 pm, room 2306, on the Campus Construction in Progress.
According to Jim Keller,
Executive Vice Chancellor, if the bond issue passes in the March election, then
the deficit for the entire District will be approximately $¸ million. This is
less than the monetary cutbacks made just by Skyline College for current fiscal year. Last year the District wide
cut was approximately $10 million. We have a healthy reserve. We are required
to maintain 4%, and we have that. If the bond issue does not pass we may be
looking at a 25% cut across the board.
In order to decrease the
number of automatically dropped students who are registered for class but have
not yet paid their fees, the cashierÕs office has mailed letters to students
reminding them that fees are due. There have been signs posted around campus,
and the Academic Senate has asked teachers to make classroom announcements
regarding fee payment.
There was discussion about
Staff Parking Permits. Only people working in Board approved staff positions
will be issued staff parking permits. Student workers are not issued staff
parking permits.
Upcoming student activities:
Mardi Gras in March, Rally in Sacramento
on March 15, sexually transmitted disease education info on bulletin boards.
EEOAC (Museum of Tolerance)
Sandy Kirkpatrick and Felix
Perez are the Classified reps who will go to the March session. Chris Weidman
and Caryn Goldman are the Classified reps who will attend the May session.
Upcoming Events
We plan to do Easter/Spring
baskets for a fundraising raffle in April. Further plans for this will be
discussed at the March meeting.
A potluck luncheon is
planned for the April 1st meeting. Voting for the Classified Council officers
will also take place at this meeting.
Next Meeting: Thursday, March 4, 2004, 2PM, Room 5131
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Herda
