Training Program

The Central Services Technology Program prepares graduates for employment in hospitals, outpatient surgery centers and private industry. Central Service departments, also known as Central Supply or Sterile Processing, process and distribute sterile and other supplies throughout the medical facility. The demand for trained central service workers is high. Graduates are encouraged to undertake further training and education to advance to other health careers. The Surgical Technologist Program is one of those options.

The program at Skyline consists of a classroom/laboratory class and a clinical preceptor component. The classroom/lab component (SURG 445) is a 12-week evening class. Two national certification exams are available. For those students taking the certification exam offered by the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel completion only completion of SURG 445 is required. For those taking the certification exam from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management, in addition to SURG 445, a 196 hour clinical component (SURG 446) will be required.
