Minutes for December 3, 2002

1. Approval of minutes from September 3 and November 5 meetings
l Nov. 5 minutes approved
l Sept. 3 minutes approved
2. Review changes to proposed Signature Form -
l Create check list of steps to follow once policy or revised policy is approved (faculty handbook, Ed policy web page, student handbook)
l Review signature blocks on form for shared governance

3. Credit by Exam – Char
l Review handout package on ‘Credit-by-Examination’ policy.
l Does Skyline’s policy follow Title 5 regulations? Yes, but our catalog is unclear and its interpretation can be varied. Consequently, many students do not understand the process.
l Evelyn will bring the following concerns and suggestions to the next Academic Senate meeting for consideration.i. Rewrite text (description) for the catalog that clearly reflects Skyline’s process. Make certain that the process follows Title 5 regulations. Include clarification for these terminologies
1. Credit by Examination
2. Advanced Placement
3. CLEP Examination
4. Challenge of Prerequisites and Corequisites
5. Credit by Certification and/or license
ii. Review the grading policy for credit by exam. Currently it is credit/no credit.
iii. Note that ‘credit/no credit’ does not transfer to the 4-year universities.
iv. Make the information more accessible to students.
v. Review the fees structure and the number of ‘challenges’ to justify the administrative cost.

4. Appeals Policy for Student Grievances
l The committee reviewed the finalized flow chart.
l Evelyn and Sherri will develop text clarifying the appeals process for presentation at the next meeting.
5. Review of Current Form Used for Appeals Process
l Char provided copies of the form.
l Jennifer and Sheri will share revisions at the next meeting.
6. Due to a conflict on the scheduled meeting date of February 4, the next Ed Policy meeting is scheduled for March 4.
