ED POLICY COMMITTEE MEETING
MINUTES for March 4, 2003

1. Approval of minutes from December 3 meeting
The February minutes were approved as presented.

2. Honors course – Connie Beringer
Handout: "HTP Guidelines for Honors Contract Course".

3. Credit by Exam update - Evelyn
Evelyn has brought EP’s concerns and suggestions to AS’s last meeting. Connie Beringer has asked the Senate representatives to provide information on their division’s practice on credit by exam. At this point, Connie has also requested the VPI to give directive to the deans to make priority the discussion within the division its practices on credit by exam.
The issue is with transferring AP credits. Universities may have different score requirements and may not accept our AP credits. Also, there is no policy stated for CLEP exam credits.
Jennifer and Soodi volunteered to work on the text that clarifies Skyline’s policy and procedure for credit by exam for the next revision of the catalog.

4. Review changes to proposed Signature Form

The committee reviewed the revised draft. Recommended changes to the signature form are:

Distribution and tracking of the signature form will be done by EP Chairperson. The completed form will be archived/posted on the EP web site. Evelyn will create links to archived minutes sorted/searched by dates.
Bridget will make changes for our next meeting. The committee will approve and forward to Academic Senate for their review/approval.

5. Appeals Policy for Student Grievances

The committee discussed definitions for a ‘grievance’ and an ‘appeal’. A grievance is the initial actual complaint and an appeal is the dissatisfaction of the resolution to the complaint.
The committee asked for clarification of faculty involvement of a grade grievance. For this type of grievance certain faculty need to be present at the hearing since only the instructor issuing the grade can change the grade?
Rosemary reports that the VPSSs a
re working with legal counsel to revise the student code of conduct. It is ready to go to the Board for approval

6. Review of current form(s) used for appeals proces

Sherri and Jennifer will share their draft at the next meeting.

7. Other:
Committee member, Pete Pontacq, will be inducted into the California Community College Coaches Hall of Fame on Friday, March 14, 2003…….Congratulations!
