ED POLICY COMMITTEE MEETING
MINUTES for March 4, 2003

1. Approval of minutes from December 3 meeting
2. Honors course – Connie Beringer
- The Honors Contract is a way to allow students in the Honors Transfer Program (HTP) to earn honors credit for a course that is not designated as honors. It fills the needs for Business majors and evening students to complete the HTP requirements. Detail requirements, guidelines and procedures are stated in the contract for both faculty and students. The HTP is about three years old. It currently has 160 students.
- Melissa Komadina is the Counselor for HTP.
3. Credit by Exam update - Evelyn
Agenda item for next meeting.
4. Review changes to proposed Signature Form
The committee reviewed the revised draft. Recommended changes to the signature form are:
- For section A
Add boxes for "New Policy" and "Revised Policy"- For section C
Add boxes for "Review" and "Approve".
Remove signature line for Classified Council.- For section D
Add additional signature lines for EP members. Columns format can be used for Signature lines due to space constraint.- For sections C and D
EP members signatures should be positioned before shared governance committee’s.
Distribution and tracking of the signature form will be done by EP Chairperson. The completed form will be archived/posted on the EP web site. Evelyn will create links to archived minutes sorted/searched by dates.
Bridget will make changes for our next meeting. The committee will approve and forward to Academic Senate for their review/approval.
5. Appeals Policy for Student Grievances
The committee discussed definitions for a ‘grievance’ and an ‘appeal’. A grievance is the initial actual complaint and an appeal is the dissatisfaction of the resolution to the complaint.
The committee asked for clarification of faculty involvement of a grade grievance. For this type of grievance certain faculty need to be present at the hearing since only the instructor issuing the grade can change the grade?
