Degre Audit

Faculty and Staff at all three colleges and the district have been diligently working on a Degree Audit process that will allow students to monitor their progress toward their educational goals using WebSMART from campus or the internet. Their participation on the Degree Audit Steering Committee, the Academic Subcommittee and the Technical Subcommittee under the leadership of Skyline College’s Vice President of Instruction, Regina Stanback Stroud, and SIG Consultant, Jeanne Hyde, culminated in the development of 38 recommendations.

By Spring 2005 academic senates of all three SMCCD colleges had accepted the 37 recommendations from the Degree Audit Steering Committee. All three colleges are busy implementing the recommendations but one outlying issue was yet to be resolved depending upon the ability of the Degree Audit technology to accurately depict courses from other institutions on student transcripts.

The committee learned that Information Technology Services (ITS) has recently been able to make a modification to the WebSMART based compliance report to show the transfer institution, subject, course number and grade of incoming work. With capacity, the Steering Committee approved the final recommendation. The Degree Audit system will be a valuable tool for counseling faculty, Admissions and Records staff and students.
