SIRS Knowledge Source: A set of three popular databases (described below) of full-text articles on social, scientific, political and many other issues, government documents and information and information on many humanities topics.

How to use SIRS Knowledge Source

  • SIRS Researcher is a general reference database that contains thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, health, historic, economic, business, political and global issues selected from more than 1,500 domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals and U.S. government publications. Articles are archived from 1989 to the present. Many articles are accompanied by graphics, including charts, maps, diagrams and illustrations.
  • SIRS Government Reporter delivers thousands of full-text documents and graphics concerning a wide variety of topics: health, science, economics, environment, politics, foreign affairs, workplace issues, business and industry. The almanac databases are valuable tools for researching current and historic government documents; landmark and recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions; information about federal departments, agencies, elected leaders and more.
  • SIRS Renaissance: Current Perspectives on the Arts & Humanitites provides current, dynamic information--both in-depth reports and brief overviews--on music, literature, film, performing arts, culture, architecture, philosophy, religion and visual arts. Many articles are accompanied by full-color graphics including art reproductions, photographs and illustrations.

Digital Dissertations: Free access to the most current two years of citations, abstracts plus the first 24 pages of each dissertation in the Dissertation Abstracts database. (To search more than two years back in the database--which includes more than 1.6 million titles--you will need to connect from a subscription institution.)

Publist.com: A directory of over 150,000 domestic and international print and electronic publications including magazines, journals, e-journals, newsletters, and monographs. PubList.com provides access to detailed publication information including, titles, formats, publisher addresses, editor contacts, circulation data, and ISSN numbers. PubList.com also provides links to publication websites.

Gale Literature Resource Center: This aggregate database combines the following Gale databases: Contemporary Authors, Dictionary of Literary Biography, Contemporary Literary Criticism, Classical and Medieval Literature Criticism, Nineteenth-Century Literature Criticism, Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism, Shakespeare Criticism, Drama Criticism, Poetry Criticism, Short Story Criticism, and Literature Criticism 1400-1800, It is augmented with full-text, excerpted, and commissioned critical material, work overviews, links to author-related internet sites, scholarly journal articles and interviews. Rand California Statistics: RAND California is a subscription based service containing information from more than 70 databases covering business and economics, population and demographics, education, health and socioeconomic measures, government finance, census and current population, and quality of life measures. COUNTRY INFORMATION DATABASE:

CountryWatch - on campus: a set of political, economic, and business information in the form of Country Reviews and the Country Wire. Country Reviews provide a political and economic survey for each of the 191 countries of the world. Coverage of every country in the world is updated continuously on the Web. Country Wire is an on-line information update from ten respected international news organizations, as well as periodic data updates from the CountryWatch.com staff which provides the latest political, economic, corporate, and environmental news on a country by country basis as it occurs.
