III. ProQuest: A Computerized Newspaper Index

V. KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER

  • Newspapers are an important information source, especially when doing historical research.

  • The best way to find newspaper articles is to use a newspaper index, which are available in both print and computerized formats. Computerized newspaper indexes differ significantly from the print counterpart.

  • In general, you will have to use a print newspaper index if the time period you're researching is 1985 or earlier.

  • Newspapers from around the world are available on the Internet, but usually only the current week or two is free. Back issues must be paid for.
