TROJANS QUALIFY THREE SINGLES, FOUR DOUBLES TEAMS
TO STATE FINALS

Doubles- Maggie Ho/Keshia Yusman (#1 seed), Bonnie Chan/Khin Htwe (#2 seed), Casey Spinetti/Erica Lum (#5 seed), Gulsha Akoglu/Jenny Cheu (#6 seed)

The individual championships start Friday and Saturday at noon.  The team championship (Skyline vs. San Diego City College) starts Thursday at 3 p.m.

SKYLINE WINS CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
April 18, 2008

 

The Skyline Women's Badminton team topped visiting Fresno City College 18-3 to claim their first Coast Conference title in two years. For the Trojans it is the fifth conference championship under head coach Jan Fosberg since 2001.

The Trojans cruised to victory after taking nine of the twelve singles matches before sweeping all five of their doubles matches to close out the win. #1 singles player Maggie Ho swept both of her singles matches 21-11, 21-9 and 21-4, 21-2 and then teamed up with Keshia Yusman to win both doubles matches 21-8, 21-7 and 21-2, 21-3.

Victoria Sexton and Jenny Chu each won both of their singles matches to score four points towards the win. Erica Lum and Casey Spinette, playing #5 and #6 singles closed out an impressive singles round for Skyline with two wins each.

Skyline will host the Badminton State Championships on May 3rd where they will be playing the #1 team from Southern California, trying to win their first state title ever.


 

 

 

TROJANS STAKE CLAIM TO CONFERENCE TITLE
APRIL 16, 2008

With their third win of the season over San Francisco City College the Skyline Badminton team clinched at least a share of the 2008 Coast Conference title. The Trojans won their fifth match of the season and remain undefeated in conference play with a 5-0 record after the 11-10 win

Skyline won 8 of the twelve singles matches without the services of their #1 singles player. Bonnie Chan and Victoria Sexton moved up to take the top two spots in the Trojans lineup and split their matches against CCSF top two singles players. Skyline #3 singles player, Keisha Yusman gave the Trojans two much needed wins over CCSF's #3 and #4 singles players. Erica Lum and Casey Spinetti each swept their singles matches to extend Skyline's lead to 8-4 headed into doubles play.

In the two point doubles matches CCSF tied the match at 10-10, winning three of the first four matches played. Skyline#3 doubles team of Gulsha Akoglu and Erica Lum secured the win for the Trojans with a three set win 18-21, 21-15, 21-9.

Skyline will host Fresno City College on April 17th at 3:00pm and with a win the Trojans can capture their fifth Coast Conference Championship.



SKYLINE CLOSING IN ON CONFERENCE TITLE WITH WIN
April 10, 2008

Skyline topped defending Coast Conference Champions Fresno City College for the second time this season, but unlike their 17-4 home win on April 1st, the Trojans had to come from behind to grab the 11-10 win on the road. With four wins in four matches Skyline can clinch the Coast Conference title with two more wins this season.

Skyline struggled in singles matches, winning just four of twelve matches. Skyline #1 singles player Maggie Ho won both of her matches 21-5, 21-8, and 21-8, 21-13. #3 singles Erica Lum was the only other Trojan to win her singles matches, topping Fresno's #3 and #4 singles players.

Trailing by four points headed into the doubles matches, Skyline won four of their five matches played to grab the lead and the win. Maggie Ho and Casey Spinetti, Skyline's #1 doubles team, won 21-14, 21-13 and 21-13, 21-7 over Fresno's #1 and #2 teams. Eric Luma and Khin Htwe won one of their doubles matches to tie the score at 10-10 heading into the final doubles match of the day.

In the final match, #3 doubles team Shalimar Elp and Margaret On beat Fresno's #3 doubles team 21-19, 21-14 to give Skyline one point and the win 11-10.



TROJANS OPEN '08 SEASON WITH WIN OVER SFCC
March 27, 2008

Skyline traveled to SFCC to open the 2008 Coast Conference Badminton schedule and closed out City 15-6. With just three teams in league this season, due to Mission College and De Anza not fielding a team, every win will be one step closer to a conference title.

Skyline #1 singles player Bonnie Chan swept her two matches against SFCC' s #1 and #2 singles players. Skyline #2 singles player also beat SFCC's #1, but fell in three sets in her second match. Jenny Cheu and Casey Spinetti each won both of their singles matches to give Skyline a 9-2 lead headed into doubles play.

In doubles Skyline#1 team of Chan and Spinetti won both their matches 21-18, 21-14 over SFCC's #1 and 21-7, 21-11 over SFCC;s #2 team. Skyline wrapped up the win when the #3 doubles team of Victoria Sexton and Shalimar Elp won their match 21-19, 21-18.
