YANKEES CALL SKYLINE'S JUSTIN CHRISTIAN UP TO THE SHOW

Justin Christian was the first All-American in 2000 for Head Coach Dino Nomicos.  After having a great sophomore year for the Trojans, Christian signed a full scholarship with Auburn University.  Justin was hitting .309 with 18 stolen bases in 55 games at Triple-A. In his major league debut Christian went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s against the Pittsburg Pirates.

RAMIREZ, MAGGIOLO EARN TOP HONORS

Jeff Ramirez was chosen as 2008 Player of the Year and Matt Maggiolo 2008 Pitcher of the Year in the Coast Conference by the conference coaches this week.

Ramirez lead Skyline in eight offensive catagories including BA (.406) , runs (53), hits (67), RBI (49) , home runs (12), triples (7), slug% (.794) and stolen bases (23). Ramirez lead the Coast Conference in Slugging %, runs, hits and home runs.

Maggiolo appeared in fifteen games this season, going 6-1 with a 2.42 ERA. Matt lead Skyline with 76 strikouts and three complete games, including two shutouts. In conference games he had 5 victories and a 1.80 ERA, striking out 68, while holding league opponents to a .212 batting average over 70 innings pitched.

The #13 seed Trojans (27-14, 16-9) will travel to Sierra College of Rocklin on Friday May 9th to begin a best of three playoff series against #4 seed Sierra College (31-13, 12-9) of the Big Eight conference. Game 1 is scheduled for 2:00pm Friday, with games 2 & on Saturday afternoon.

Skyline ended the 2008 regular season with a 7-0 shutout victory over De Anza College of Cupertino and now wait to hear who they will be playing in the first round of the Northern California playoffs. All first round games will be announced after the seeding meeting on Sunday afternoon.

Jeff Ramirez added to his MVP numbers, launching three home runs and driving in four. Ramirez homered in the first, fifth and seventh innings, giving him twelve home runs this season, a .406 batting average and 49 RBI in 41 games. Adrian Mull, Danny McCarthy and Jimmy Parque each added RBI hits in the game.

Matt Maggiolo (6-1, 2.43) pitched his third complete game and second shutout of the season, allowing just four hits while striking out nine.

Skyline finishes the season at 27-14, second place in the Coast Conference North with a 16-9 record.

For the third time in the last four seasons the Skyline is headed to the Northern California Community College baseball playoffs. The Trojans topped district rival Canada College 9-8 on Saturday to clinch second place in the Coast Conference North Division and are still just one game out of first place with two games to play.

Travis Gonzaga had a career day, driving in five runs with four hits, including his first home run of the season. Matt Maggiolo (5-1,2.70) won his fifth of the season, striking out eleven Colt batters in seven innings of work. Skyline will host two games this week to close out the 2008 regular season and then wait to hear where and when they will begin the 2008 playoffs.

Skyline moved to within one game of first place in the Coast Conference North division with a late inning rally that proved to be enough to top fourth place Cabrillo College in Aptos. Sergio Contreras (6-4, 2.22) pitched eight solid innings, scattering nine hits and allowing just one earned run. Dan March (0-0, 2.51) picked up his second save of the season, working a perfect ninth inning.

Jeff Ramirez and Jake Walter each had a pair of hits and an RBI each. Nick Borg tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the ninth with an RBI ground out and Ramirez hit a bases loaded sac fly to give Skyline the lead. The Trojans will travel to third place Canada College on Saturday with first place and a trip to the Northern California playoffs on the line. First pitch will be at 12:00pm.



SKYLINE GETS CLOSER TO CONFERENCE LEADERS

The Skyline Trojans hosted Coast Conference leader College of San Mateo on Tuesday and used a seven run sixth inning to grab the 10-8 win and move a game closer to the top spot in the league.


Jeff Remirez hit his team leading ninth home run of the season to give Skyline a 2-0 lead in the third inning. CSM took a three run lead with four in the top of the fifth before Skyline took control again in the bottom half of the sixth inning. RBI doubles from Ramirez Nick Borg and Danny McCarthy plated five of the seven runs and CSM miscues accounted for the rest as the Trojans took a 10-6 lead.

Marcus Pointer (10-4, 3.61) pitched the final five innings in relief of starter Matt Maggiolo for his tenth win of the season.

With just five games remaining in the 2008 regular season the Trojan offense exploded for 21 runs on eleven hits, including three grand slam home runs in a 21-4 win over Mission College of Santa Clara. Jimmy Parque hit two bases loaded home runs, his first coming in a six run second inning and his second in an eight run fourth inning. Skyler Brewer capped off the win with a bases clearing big fly in the ninth.


With plenty of run support Sergio Contreras picked up his fifth win of the season, going six innings, allowing just four hits and two earned runs. Skyline (23-12, 12-7) remains in second place in the Coast Conference North and will play two games against first place CSM on Tues. Apr. 22nd. The first game will be a continuation of a 6-6 13 inning game suspended earlier in the season, and then the regularly schedule game will begin, scheduled for a 2:00pm first pitch.




SKYLINE GRABS TWO MORE WINS IN PLAYOFF PUSH

Back to back wins over Hartnell College of Salinas and San Jose City College put Skyline back in to second place in the Coast Conference North, just one game out of first place with eight games remaining.

Jeff Ramirez and Jimmy Parque each hit two home runs and Skyline scored 13 runs on 14 hits in the 13-5 win over San Jose City College on Tuesday night. Ramirez matched a season high with seven RBI in the game, hitting a three run home run in the 4th inning and in the 7th, he hit his second grand slam in the last two games, giving him an impressive 41 RBI on the season. Parque hit a two run home run in the third inning and a solo shot in the ninth, raising his batting average to a team leading .391.

Matt Maggiolo(4-0, 2.77) picked up his fourth win of the season, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs, striking out nine. Skyline (22-11, 11-6) will travel to San Francisco City college to play two games on Tuesday, the first a continuation of a suspended game in the bottom of the ninth with Skyline leading 3-2 and then they will play their regularly scheduled game.

Jeff Ramirez plated seven runners, four with his second inning grand slam, to lead Skyline's 17 hit attack in the 12-7 win over Hartnell College of Salinas. The Trojans fell behind by three runs early but responded with four in the second and five more in the third. Rashad Taylor had a two run triple in the third and Ramirez knocked in two more with a double.

Skyline starter Marcus Pointer (8-4, 2.87) struggled early but settled down to earn his staff leading eighth win of the year. Dan March ( 0-0, 2.84, 1sv) pitched the final three innings for his first save of the season.

Skyline picked up their 19th win of the season at Mission College on Saturday and moved to within one game of the top spot in the Coast Confence North Division. Sergio Contreras (4-3, 3.62) pitched his second complete game of the season, allowing just two earned runs and eight hits while striking out five.

Danny McCarthy lead Skyline with three hits and scored three runs, Jeff Ramirez collected a pair of hits, pushing his teaming leading batting average to .368. Jake Walter got the Trojans on the board in the second with a two run double and Joe Nisco, Jimmy Parque and McCarthy each drove in runs in a six run third inning.


Skyline (19-10, 8-5) will travel to West Valley College of Saratoga on Tuesday, April 8th at 2:00pm.

Marcus Pointer (7-3, 2.43) pitched nine strong innings and earned his Coast Conference leading seventh win of the season at Cabrillo College of Aptos. Pointer scattered seven hits and struck out three in the win.

Jeff Ramirez tripled and scored on Rashad Taylor's sac fly in the first and drove in the game winning run with his second triple of the game in the seventh. Will Klein and Taylor Heon each added RBI hits in the four run seventh for Skyline.

The Trojans pounded out 14 hits and scored seven runs in a 7-2 victory over Galivan College in Gilroy. Marcus Pointer (6-3, 2.50) pitched five innings to pick up his sixth win of the season, allowing just three hits while striking out eight.

Rashad Taylor and Will Klein each had three hits and Jake Walter had a two run double in the sixth inning to give Skyline a 2-0 lead. Skyline scored four times in the seventh to put the game away, Klein and Jimmy Parque each chipped in with RBI singles.

Skyline remains in second place in the Coast Conference North, just a game behind CSM. Skyline will travel to CSM on Tuesday April 1at 2:00pm.






TROJANS TOP SFCC AND CANADA, MOVE IN TO SECOND

Skyline rebounded from a tough stretch of games to beat Canada College of Redwood City on Thursday 6-1. Headed into the semester break the Trojans shut out San Francisco City College 5-0, but then lost a pair of close games to Sacramento City College, 8-7 in extra innings and 5-1 on a walk off grand slam in the bottom ninth inning. The conference wins over SFCC and Canada move Skyline (16-9, 5-4) in to second place, just two games out of first.

Matt Maggiolo pitched his second complete game of the season, improving to 3-0, lowering his team leading ERA to 2.20, in the 6-1 win over Canada College. Maggiolo scattered five hits and struck out seven in an impressive performance.

Jimmy Parque doubled twice and drove in one, and Dan McCarthy collected three RBI, including his second home run of the season, a two run shot on the third to give Skyline a 4-0 lead. Chris Vargas and Taylor Heon also had run scoring hits in the game.


The Trojans (16-9, 5-4) play their next two games on the road at Gavilan College of Gilroy on Sat. March 29th at 12:00pm and CSM on Tuesday April 1st at 2:00pm.

Skyline hosted San Francisco City College and won 5-0 behind Matt Maggiolo's first complete game of the season. Jeff Ramirez and Jake Walter each had a pair of hits. Nick Borg and Jimmy Parque each drove in a run as Skyline took advantage of three City errors to score three more unearned runs in the win.

Maggiolo dominated, striking out nine while allowing just four hits, picking up his second win of the year and lowering his ERA to 3.60.




SKYLINE DROPS TWO IN A ROW

The Trojans fell on the road at Monterey Peninsula 8-1 and on Thursday battled Chabot College of Hayward at home, losing 3-2. In a schedule change due to impending weather, Skyline will host San Francisco City College at Skyline on Sunday, March 16th at 12:00pm.

Trojans pitchers limited Chabot College to just five and no earned runs, but four defensive miscues cost Skyline, allowing three unearned runs to cross the plate in the 3-2 loss. Marcus Pointer ( 5-2, 1.98) took the loss, despite pitching four solid innings in relief, giving up just two hits and one unearned run.

For the second straight game the Trojan batters struggled at the plate, managing just five hits and five walks the entire game. Jake Walter lead Skyline with two hits, including an RBI single in the second inning to tie the game a 1-1. Taylor Heon had a run scoring single in the third to tie the game at 2-2. Chabot grabbed the lead back in the seventh 3-2, and held on for the win.




TROJANS SPLIT A PAIR IN CONFERENCE
March 9, 2008

Skyline topped De Anza College of Cupertino 4-3 on Saturday after falling to Canada College by the same score on Thursday. The Trojans moved to 14-4 on the season and are just a game back of CSM for first place in the Coast Conference North with a 3-1 record. Skyline will travel to Monterey Peninsula on Tuesday at 2:00pm.

Jeff Ramirez had three hits and scored a pair of runs as Skyline held on for the 4-3 win over De Anza College on Saturday. Marcus Pointer (5-1, 2.15) picked up his fifth win of the season, going eight strong innings, striking out six.

With the Trojan bats struggling to produce runs, Pointer kept Skyline in the game, allowing just five hits and two earned runs in his sixth start of the season. Matt Maggiolo (1-0, 6.92, 2sv) pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second save of the year.

Skyline scored a run in the bottom of the first and after De Anza tied the game in the top of the seventh, the Trojans responded with three runs to take a 4-1 lead. In the seventh Nick Borg lead off with a double and Jimmy Parque drove him home with a double of his own. Jeff Ramirez then singled home Parque and Rashad Taylor doubled in Ramirez.

The Trojans traveled to Canada College and fell behind early before getting back in the game late. Jeff Ramirez and Taylor Heon each had a pair of hits and an RBI. Sergio Contreras ( 3-1, 2.25) took the loss, his first of the season.

Skyline trailed 4-1 in the ninth, but scored twice and loaded the bases two different times before Canada could record the final out.


SKYLINE TOPS MISSION, TIES CSM

Three games into their Coast Conference schedule Skyline remained undefeated thanks to a 8-4 win over Mission College of Santa Clara on Saturday and tie game against College of San Mateo that was called due to darkness.

SKYLINE 6, CSM 6 10inn. suspended

Skyline and CSM played ten innings but settled nothing as the teams left the field tied 6-6 when the umpires decided to call the game due to darkness. The two teams will pick up where they left off on April 22nd when CSM returns to Skyline for their regularly scheduled game.

Jimmy Parque had three hits in the game and Joe Nisco had two RBI.

Jeff Ramirez hit a two run home run in the first inning and a grand slam in the fifth and Nik Jurado pitched his second complete game of the year leading Skyline to the 8-4 lead over Mission College of Santa Clara.

Ramirez had three hits in the game to go along with his six RBI. Travis Gonzaga and Dan McCarthy each picked up an RBI in the game. Joe Nisco chipped in with three hits.

Jurado (4-1, 3.15) pitched a complete game for the second time this season, the freshman right hander scattered twelve hits and gave up just four runs, striking out four with no walks.

The Skyline Trojans opened Coast Conference play on Thursday at Cabrillo College of Aptos with a 6-0 win. Three Skyline pitchers combined on the eight hit shutout as Sergio Contreras picked up his third win of the season.

Jimmy Parque led Skyline with three hits and Rashad Taylor drove in two runs with a triple in the fifth inning. Jeff Ramirez hit his second home run of the year in the seventh inning and Travis Gonzaga had a pair of hits and an RBI.

Contreras (3-0, 1.25) pitched seven innings, allowing six hits, striking out two. Marcus Pointer and Dan March each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

Skyline (12-3, 1-0) will host Mission College of Santa Clara on Saturday, first pitch is 12:00pm.








SKYLINE ENDS PRESEASON WITH TWO WINS

The Skyline College Baseball team closed out the pre-conference part of their schedule with a pair of wins over visiting Mendocino College, pushing their record to 11-3. The Trojans open up Coast Conference play at home on Thursday when they face Cabrillo College at 2:00pm.

Skyline took the series finale 7-1 behind Nik Jurado's first complete game of the season. The Trojans scored all seven runs in the first four innings, highlighted by Taylor Heon's two RBI double in the fourth. Joe Nisco collected a pair of RBI with a sacrifice fly in the first and a run scoring ground out in the second.

Jurado (3-1, 4.21) gave up just four hits and one run over nine strong innings.

The Trojans jumped out to an eight run lead after two innings on a wet Friday afternoon and held on for the 9-6 win. Rashad Taylor's two run home run in the bottom of the first gave Skyline a 2-0 lead. Back to back RBI doubles from Jeff Ramirez and Joe Nisco made the score 4-0.

In the second Ramirez and Nisco again produced RBI hits to push the lead to 8-0. Marcus Pointer (4-1, 2.19) pitched five innings to earn his fourth win of the season, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out five. Skylar Brewer (0-0, 3.48, 2 SV) pitched the ninth, striking out a pair for his second save of the year.




TROJANS TOP #5 COSUMNES RIVER ON THE ROAD

Skyline won their third game in a row, pushing their preseason record to 9-3, with an impressive 6-5 win over #5 Cosumnes River College. Sergio Contreras (2-0, 1.84) pitched a complete game for his second win of the season.

Rashad Taylor led Skyline with three hits including an RBI single in the third inning for the Trojans first run of the game. Trailing by two runs headed to the top of the fifth inning Skyline rallied to tie the score on Will Klein's RBI single and Joe Nisco's bases loaded walk.

Skyline took the lead in the seventh on an RB single from Taylor Heon and added two more runs in the eight to take a 6-3 lead. Contreras kept the Cosumnes River hitters off balance all game, allowing just 6 hits and three earned runs over his nine inning performance.

Skyline (9-3) hosts Mendocino College on Friday at 2:00pm and weather permitting, hopes to play two more against Mendocino on Saturday starting at 11:00am.



SKYLINE CONTINUES PRESEASON SUCCESS
February 17, 2008

Skyline won two of three games over the weekend to push their preseason record to 8-3. After a tough 5-4 loss to Lassen College on Friday, the Trojans fell behind visiting Feather River College on Saturday before rallying for a 10-9 extra inning win. On Sunday, Skyline closed out Shasta College with a easy 12-4 victory.

The Trojans scored in each of the first five innings and pounded out 15 hits against Shasta College. Jeff Ramirez scored three runs and had four hits, coming a home run short of hitting for the cycle. Rashad Taylor had three hits and a pair of RBI, while Will Klein collected three RBI with a two run double and a run scoring single.

Nik Jurado (2-1, 5.94) picked up the win, going five strong innings, giving up just one run on three hits. Skyline will travel to Cosumnes River College of Tuesday for a 2:00pm game.

Skyline trailed 9-4 headed into the seventh inning, but scored five runs to tie the game and in the tenth Travis Gonzaga singled home Will Klein for the 10-9 win. The Trojans used home runs from Joe Nisco in the fourth and Jimmy Parque in the fifth inning to tie the game 4-4.

After giving up two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh Skyline got back into the game sending ten batters to the plate in a five run, five hit inning. Jeff Ramirez, Kevin Norcross, and Rashad Taylor each had RBI singles in the rally.

Sergio Contreras (1-0, 0.00), did not allow a hit over the final three and a half innings to pick up his first win of the season.

The Trojans gabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning, but could only manage five hits and one run the rest of the game, falling 5-4 to Lassen College.


Dan McCarthy and Travis Gonzaga each had a pair of hits to lead Skyline and Marcus Pointer (3-1, 1.41) lost for the first time this season, going five innings, allowing just two earned runs on five hits.



SKYLINE BATTLES #1 INTO EXTRA INNINGS

In their biggest test of the season so far Skyline battled the states #1 ranked team into extra innings before falling 7-6. Leading by a run headed in the bottom of the ninth Sacramento City scored to send the game into extra innings.

The Trojans bounced back in the top of the tenth, grabbing the lead with a pair of run scoring doubles from Joe Nisco and Dan McCarthy. Sacramento scored three times in the bottom of the tenth to steal the exciting win.


TROJANS TAKE 2 OF 3 FROM DELTA

Skyline traveled to San Joaquin Delta College of Stockton and took two of three over the weekend series. Starting with a 11-7 win on Friday, the Trojans followed with an 8-0 shutout on Saturday, before losing 11-0 in the series finale.

TROJANS OPEN WITH THREE WINS

The Skyline College Baseball team opened the 2008 season with three wins, including a pair of shutouts over visiting Bartsow College this weekend, and a 18-8 win over Ohlone College of Fremont on Monday.

Skyline spotted visiting Ohlone College four runs in the top of the first but came back to take the lead with five runs in the bottom of the same inning, highlighted by Danny McCarthy's first home run of the season, a grand slam that gave the Trojans a 5-4 lead.

Jimmy Parque had a solo homerun in the second inning and scored again in the fourth inning on Rashad Taylor's RBI ground out to give Skyline a 7-4 lead. Ohlone tied the game in the fifth with three runs off eventual winner Nik Jurado (1-0, 4.50). Parque homered again in the sixth to give Skyline a 8-7 lead, but Ohlone scored one in the top of the seventh to tie the game 8-8.

Skyline took the lead back for good with an eight hit, ten run explosion in the bottom of the seventh. RBI singles from Parque, Taylor, Travis Gonzaga, and Joe Nisco, and three Ohlone errors helped to secure the Trojans third win in as many days.

Skyline will host Sierra College of Rocklin on Friday, Feb. 1st at 2:00pm.
