TROJANS SEASON ENDS WITH SECOND ROUND LOSS AT FRESNO

Skyline College’s Women’s Basketball team, in its second season, beat Lassen College in the state playoffs last Wednesday, February 27, but their run into the basketball post-season ended last Saturday as the Trojans lost to the Fresno City College Rams 78-53 in Fresno.
The Rams, who are the 2nd seeded team in Northern California, shot a blistering 58% in the first half and jumped out to a 50-25 halftime lead over the 15th seeded Trojans. Skyline played a spirited second half but were never able to cut the deficit below 20 points. The Trojans were led by Adele Faataui with 16 points, Marie Colon with 13 points and Esmeralda Lopez Rivas with 11 points.
Skyline finishes the season with an overall record of 19-13. On behalf of Coach Trisha Hosley, her assistants and the players, the team would like to thank the Skyline College community for their support during the season.

The Skyline College Women's basketball team made the most of their first ever trip to the Northern California Community College Basketball playoffs with a 73-69 overtime in against Lassen College on Wednesday night. The Trojans will travel to Fresno City College on Saturday to face the #2 seeded Rams in the quarterfinals.

Marie Colon scored 22 points on 9 of 19 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace Skyline's balanced attack. She was backed up by three other Skyline players who scored in double figures. Skyline lead by five at the break, 36-31, but fell behind by five points early in the second half before rallying to take the lead. No team led by more than three points the rest of the game and some clutch free throw shooting by Skyline helped send the game into overtime.
Adele Faataui scored 17 points and was 7-10 from the free throw line, including a pair of free throws that tied the game at 63-63 with 21.1 seconds left. Jenn Matawaran added 16 points and five steals, and Esmeralda Lopez-Rivas chipped in 12 points, including an overtime basket that gave Skyline the lead. Brittany Piccolotti hit her only shot of the game, a three pointer from the corner to give Skyline the overtime lead they would not give up.
SKYLINE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL QUALIFIES FOR STATE PLAYOFFS
Skyline College’s Women’s Basketball team in just their second season have captured a berth in the state playoffs. The Trojans will play the Lassen College Cougars on Wednesday, February 27th at Skyline College. Game time will be at 7PM.
Skyline was seeded 15th in Northern California based on an 18-12 overall record and 4th place finish in the Coast Conference North Division. Lassen was seeded 18th in Northern California based on an 20-13 overall record and a 4th place finish in the Golden Valley Conference. The teams met earlier this season with the Trojans defeating the Cougars on December 7th by a score of 76-68. The winner of this game will advance to play the 2nd seed Fresno City College Rams in Fresno on Saturday, March 1st.
Skyline was led this season by Sophomores, Marie Colon and Esmeralda Lopez-Rivas, along with Freshman Adele Faataui. Colon, was a first team Coast Conference selection and earned third team honors as an all-state selection. Lopez-Rivas and Faataui, both were honorable mention selections to the Coast Conference All-Conference team.
Because the game is a state playoff contest, admission will be charged with all receipts going to the California Community College Athletic Association. Prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students, faculty, staff, seniors and children under 12. Ticket sales will begin at 6:00P.
COLON LEADS TROJANS TO WIN OVER MPC

Marie Colon scored a career high 39 points on Wednesday night to lead the Trojans to a 80-73 home win over Monterey Peninsula College. The victory ends a short two game losing streak and keeps Skyline's playoffs hopes alive with just three game remaining in the season.
Colon had quite a night, hitting from almost everywhere on the court, she ended 12-17 from the field, including an impressive 7-8 from behind the three point line, and 8-8 from the free throw line. Esmeralda Lopez-Rivas added 14 points to back up Colon. Skyline lead 33-31 at the half.
The Trojans (17-8, 2-2) will travel to Las Positas College of Livermore on Saturday night at 7:00pm.
SKYLINE TOPS DISTRICT RIVAL IN OT, 64-57

For the first time since the return of Skyline Women's Basketball program the Trojans hung a loss on their in district rivals, College of San Mateo, with a 64-57 overtime thriller on Friday night.
Marie Colon scored 23 points including a three pointer with time running out that tied the score at 53-53 and sent the game into overtime. Esmeralda Lopez-Rivas scored nine of her 17 points points in the overtime period to help secure the win.
The Trojans trailed by five at the half as they struggled to find points both from the perimeter as well as inside against the taller Bulldogs. Colon was held to just four points, before exploding in the second half for nineteen. Adele Faataui chipped in 16 points and Shunise Criswell lead Skyline with 8 rebounds.
Skyline (17-7, 3-2) will look to continue their march towards their first ever playoff bid at Chabot College of Hayward on Wednesday Feb, 6th at 5:30pm.
TROJANS GRAB RECORD WIN

The Skyline College Women's basketball team topped visiting Las Positas College of Livermore on Friday night 65-56 and in the process set a new record for wins in a season. With their 15 wins so far this year the 2007-08 team eclipsed the 14 win mark set just last season.
Three Trojans scored in double figures including Marie Colon (16pts.), Jenn Matawaran (15pts.) and Esmarelda Lopez-Rivas (14pts.) Adele Faataui grabbed a team high 14 rebounds and Colon added nine boards, just one away from a double double.
Skyline sits at 15-7 and 2-2 in the Coast Conference, tied for third place and on the verge of making the programs first ever playoff appearance. The Trojans will travel to Aptos on Thursday, Jan 30th to face Cabrillo College at 7:00pm.
SKYLINE END PRE-SEASON WITH BIG WIN

After finishing pre-conference play with a 74-56 win on the road at Los Medanos College the Skyline Women's Basketball team will take their impressive 12-5 record into their first Coast Conference North game against Foothill College in Los Altos on Jan. 11th.
Skyline got a game high 30 points from Marie Colon (11-18 FG, 4 -8 3PT) and 13 points from Esmeralda Lopez-Rivas. Jenn Matawaran and Adele Faataui each grabbed seven boards to lead the Trojans as Skyline turned the ball over only nine times in the 18 point victory.
TROJANS TAKE FIRST EVER TOURNEY TITLE

The Skyline College Women's basketball team won three games over the weekend and captured their first ever tournament title at the Merritt College East Bay Classic . On friday the Trojans beat Lassen College 76-68, in the second round Skyline topped Napa Valley College 80-59 and in the championship game the Trojans took the title with a 66-54 win over Butte College.
SKYLINE PUSHES WIN STREAK TO FOUR AT NAPA

Skyline continued their early season success with a 64-47 road win over Napa Valley College on Friday night. Esmeralda Lopez-Rivas lead Skyline with 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting, she was also 6 of 8 from the free throw line.
Marie Colon added 15 points and came up with seven steals in the game. Jenny Matawaran also had 15 points and chipped in with 6 assist and 6 rebounds. Malorie Brewster lead Skyline on the boards with 9 rebounds.
The Trojans (6-2) will host College of Marin on Dec. 4th at 5:00pm as part of a double header with the Skyline Men's Basketball team.
TROJANS TOP FEATHER RIVER 77-59

The Skyline College Women's Basketball team returned to action Tuesday night with a 77-59 win over Feather River College. Esmeralda Lopez-Rivas scored a team high 27 points for the second straight game including four three pointers. Skyline lead 47-33 at the break and put the game away with a thirty point second half.
Jenn Matawaran added 13 points and Marie Colon chipped in 11 points. Skyline improved to 5-2 on the season, and will travel to Napa Valley College on Friday Nov. 20th at 5:00pm looking to push their win streak to four games.
TROJANS GRAB HOME WIN OVER HARTNELL 74-64

For the second time this season Skyline faced Hartnell College of Salinas and again Marie Colon and Esmeralda Lopez-Rivas lead Skyline to an impressive win. Lopez-Rivas scored a season high 27 points and Colon backed her up with 17 as four Trojans scored in double figures. Adele Faataui and Jenn Matawaran each added eleven points as Skyline pulled away in the second half, doubling their five point halftime lead and grabbing the ten point win.
