TROJANS CAP OFF UNDEFEATED SEASON WITH WIN AT LAS POSITAS

In the regular season finale at Las Positas College of Livermore the 2009 Skyline Women's Soccer team had a chance to make some history and secure a first round home game in the playoffs. With a win the Trojans would complete the first ever undefeated season in program history and remain in one of the top eight spots of the Nor-Cal playoff rankings.
After falling behind early in the match, the Trojans responded in the 27th minute when Laura Cremen scored her fourth goal of the season, placing the ball between the goalkeepers hand and the crossbar from just outside the penalty box. In the second half, Fonda Joab scored her team leading eleventh goal of the season after intercepting a pass and catching the LPC goalkeeper off her line, her 35 yard strike beat the keeper to the back post. Marie Torres allowed the early goal off a deflected set piece but made several close range saves in the second half to secure the victory and the undefeated season.
Skyline (16-0-4, 11-0-1) moved up on spot to 3rd in the latest California Community College Playoff rankings and should host a first round playoff game for the first time in school history. The Trojans back to back playoff appearances are also a first for the program. The first round playoff game is scheduled for Nov. 21st @ 2:00pm and Skyline will find out who they will be matched up against on Tuesday after the seeding meeting.
SKYLINE WRAPS UP CONFERENCE TITLE WITH WIN AT HARTNELL

The Skyline Trojans earned their first ever Coast Conference Championship on Tuesday with a 3-1 road win at Hartnell College of Salinas. Fonda Joab scored her ninth and tenth goals of the season and Jen Alvarez added another goal as the Trojans scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie and wrap up the title. Midori Sera assisted on all three goals, giving her a team leading 24 points this season.
Skyline (15-0-4, 10-0-1) plays their final regular season game on Friday, Nov. 13th @ Las Positas College of Livermore. The Trojans are currently ranked #3 in the latest Northern California Community College rankings and #8 in the final regular season NSCAA / Adidas National Rankings.
TROJANS CLINCH FIRST EVER COAST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Skyline College Women's soccer team clinched at least a share of the Coast Conference North Division Championship today after a 0-0 home draw against second place De Anza College. With two games left in the regular season, the Trojans improved to 14-0-4 and 9-0-1 in conference play. One win or tie in their final two games will give Skyline their first outright conference title in program history.
The Trojans will travel to Hartnell College of Salinas on Tuesday, Nov. 11th and Las Positas College of Livermore on Friday Nov. 14th.

TROJANS COMPLETE SEASON SWEEP OF CCSF, CANADA COLLEGE

Skyline remained undefeated in the Coast Conference North division after a pair of shutout wins over their closest neighbors, City College San Francisco and Canada College of Redwoods City. The Trojans topped CCSF on Friday at home 6-0, and on Tuesday they picked up a 3-0 road win over Canada College.
Against Canada Jen Alvarez scored a pair of first half goals and assisted on the Trojans third goal to lead Skyline to their fourteenth shutout of the season. Amanda Downing scored her fourth goal of the season, finishing off Alvarez's centering pass with a well placed head ball past the Canada goalkeeper in the 70th minute.
Lisa Kurpieski, Fonda Joab and Midori Sera each scored a pair of goals against CCSF. Laura Cremen had a pair of assist in the first half to help give Skyline a 2-0 halftime advantage. Marie Torres had two saves in the game, recording her thirteenth shutout of the season.
TROJANS CONTINUE TO PLAY WELL IN CONFERENCE

Skyline remained unbeaten in Coast Conference North division play this week after a pair of shutout victories, a 2-0 road win over De Anza College of Cupertino on Tuesday, followed by a 6-0 home win over Hartnell College of Salinas on Friday. The two wins moved Skyline to 9-0-2 on the season, and 5-0 in division play.
Midori Sera and Fonda Joab each scored off an assist from Lisa Kurpieski in the first half against Hartnell to give Skyline a 2-0 halftime lead. In the second half Kurpieski, Amanda Downing, Nour Abudamous and Jamie Parque each scored for the Trojans.
Against De Anza, Laura Cremen scored in the 2nd minute of the game and Fonda Joab scored in the 78th minute to close out the Trojans first win over De Anza since 2003. Marie Torres had four saves, earning her eighth shutout of the season.
SKYLINE STARTS CONFERENCE WITH TWO WINS

The Trojans opened Coast Conference play this week with a 2-0 road win over City College of San Francisco and finished the week off with a 3-0 home win over district rival Canada College of Redwood City. Off to their best start since 2007, Skyline remained undefeated on the season, posting their filth and sixth shutouts so far this year.
Friday afternoon Skyline hosted Canada College and despite getting off to a slow start offensively, held a 1-0 lead at the half. Laura Cremen latched on to a rebounded shot from Midori Sera in the 17th minute and put away her first goal of the season. In the second half the Trojan offense started to take control, totaling 8 shots on goal, two of which found the back of the net. Fonda Joab scored her second goal in as many games in the 60th minute and Nour Abudamous finished off a perfect service from Hannah Johnson in the 70th minute to give Skyline a 3-0 lead.
On Tuesday in San Francisco the Trojans scored twice in the first half, out shooting CCSF 15-1 in the game. Midori Sera scored her second goal of the year and Fonda Joab scored her first. Marie Torres made one save and has not allowed a goal in the last three matches.
TROJANS CONTINUE STRONG START, TOP MODESTO 1-0

The Skyline College Women's Soccer team stayed undefeated this season and earned their third shutout win in four games, stopping nationally ranked Modesto JC 1-0. Nour Abudamous slotted home a loose ball in the six yard box in the 68th minute and Marie Torres had 8 saves as the Trojans beat Modesto JC for the first time ever.
Modesto entered the game ranked #5 in the latest NSCAA/Adidas National rankings, and held a six game win streak over the Trojans. Skyline finished the game with six shots on goal, none bigger than Midori Sera's strike from the top of the penalty box that was deflected away by the Modesto goalkeeper, right to Abudamous who calmly found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Torres and Skyline's defense held Modesto to just four shots on goal.
Skyline will host perennial Coast Conference powerhouse and 2008 state playoff participant West Valley College of Saratoga on Tuesday, Sept. 15th @ 2:00pm in their final pre-conference game of the season.
SKYLINE BATTLES FOOTHILL TO ROAD DRAW

Skyline traveled to Foothill College of Los Altos on Friday and earned a hard fought 1-1 draw with the defending league champs. The Trojans scored early in the match when freshman forward Lisa Kurpieski hooked on to a pass from defender Jamie Parque and outpaced the Foothill defender down the left side of the field before sending a high shot over the outstretched arms of the Foothill goalkeeper.
The Trojans defensive line of Taylor Hill, Jenna Motylewski, Meranda Bradley, Parque and goalkeeper Marie Torres held off the potent Foothill offense for most of the game, but with just two minutes remaining in the match, the Owls scored the equalizer. Torres had seven saves, including several highlight reel efforts to keep the score level before the final whistle blew.
Skyline (2-0-1) will host Modesto JC (2-0) on Tuesday, Sept. 8th at 2:30pm. The Trojans fell 3-1 at Modesto last season and the Pirates advanced all the way to the state final four in 2008, before falling in the semi-finals to eventual state champions Cerritos.
TROJANS OPEN 2009 SEASON WITH TWO WINS

The Skyline Women's Soccer team started with home wins over West Hills College of Leemore and Mendicino College of Ukiah to open the 2009 season.
On Thursday the Trojans hosted West Hills and scored three times in route to a 3-0 shutout win. Sophomores Jen Alaverez, Amanda Downing and Victoria Vera all scored and sophomore goalkeeper Marie Torres had three saves.
In the second game of the season, Skyline made it back to back shutouts with a 1-0 win over Mendicino College. Midori Sera scored midway through the second half and Marie Torres made 5 saves as the Trojans held on for the victory.
Skyline (2-0) will travel to Foothill College of Los Altos on Friday, Sept. 4th for a 4:00pm kickoff against the defending Coast Conference champion Owls. |
